Rating: Summary: Misleading... Review: Just ordered this booking thinking that it was the new edition shown in the picture (blue cover - in the style of all of teh new microsoft books)... upon clicking to see more images, i see that all of the images are of the older book (white cover). Now, looking further at the publication date, as some others have said, this is an old edition of the book. Pretty crappy that they're even selling it on amazon, and I don't even see the new edition for sale on here! Not overly happy that I just wasted my money...
Rating: Summary: Overpriced Review: Microsoft has a recommended retail price for this book of $69.99 (http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/1999/Apr99/A+Certpr.htm) Barnes & Nobel discounts the suggested retail, not sure why Amazon doesn't.
Rating: Summary: Great A+ book for a beginner Review: Microsoft has done a great job writing a book that is geared to their products. Thanks Microsoft! I learned a lot. It was very informative and easy to understand (I didn't know anything). I liked the test questions at the end of each chapter, they let you know how well you understood the chapter. I also liked the summaries at the end of each chapter.
Rating: Summary: Informative as can be....(except for typo's=) Review: Microsoft oughta rewrite the bible, They write everything better than anyone else anyway! (i'm kidding..)
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A TEXT BOOK NOT A STUDY GUIDE.... Review: Myers book is a reference book, Microsoft book is a text book, and the Dummies book is another cram. I think that Muller Upgrading and Repairing Pcs make a better work than this book. If you dont have pc repairing, maintaining or troubleshooting experience, i recommend clases or intensive trainning in real scenarios. Otherwise, the road is hard!!!
Rating: Summary: Great if you're just starting out...otherwise Review: Not for the professional with experience. If you want to slog through extremely elementary details, go for it. This is straight up a "how do we educate someone with no prior knowledge/experience with the subject" kind of book, which is fine for newbies. Get the New Riders A+ Fast Track(Core/OS) book if you want just the essentials. Read it in a week, passed both tests +90% back to back.
Rating: Summary: Do not buy - there is a third edition!! Review: Nowhere is a potential buyer warned that there is a third edition of this book. I made the mistake of getting this book. It is a good thing that I also purchased the Readiness Review which which, to my shock, started testing me on things not even mentioned in the Training Kit. To get the most recent edition - so you do not fail the exam - get ISBN 0-7356-1265-X.
Rating: Summary: A good book for A+ exam and reference Review: Overall, this book is a very good study guide for the A+ Core/Windows exams. This was the only book that I bought and I passed both exams with no problems. I didn't give it 5 stars because of several typos/mistakes. Amazing that a book could have simple spelling mistakes with all of the spell check programs which are now available! The book will also make a good reference book for the future. I would also recommend checking out the cramsession.com web site for excellent study notes and links to practice tests. Good luck.
Rating: Summary: A sure boost to A+ awareness, with Microsoft's help. Review: Probably the best A+ Certification book available in the market today!!Thanks to Microsoft!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Review: Really Excellent book. Covers topics in detail but yet covers them in a simple easy to understand way. Alot of material in this book that's not needed for the exam but you probably will want to know anyway if you didnt read it. Also includes a searchable electronic version of the book which I found to be very useful.
