Rating: Summary: Totally outstanding!!! Review: I bought this book to start studying for the A+ Certification, but I got a lot more then what I paid for. As being an IT Tech in the Navy, I found many solutions for some of our computer problems. I'm going to recommend our ADP Department purchase this book and keep it on hand for an easy reference and problem solver.
Rating: Summary: This book is full of typos! Review: I give the content of this book a "B" and would probably buy it again, but the typos on practically every page are extremely distracting! Didn't anyone proof this book before they are sent out?
Rating: Summary: Good reference Review: I just passed (January 2003) both A+ exams, using this book as one of my references. It certainly offers a different approach and unique perspective than the other A+ books. I found information in this book that is not in any of the other major A+ references; however, some of the good, nice-to-know info seems beyond the A+ objectives. I would recommend it and the Microsoft A+ Certification Readiness Review as supplements to one or more of the slim A+ Adaptive Exam books by either Meyers or Crayton. I didn't look at the info on the included CD.
Rating: Summary: not a great starters book Review: I read this book and within 3 days i returned it to the bookstore. This book firstly has a lot of typos. Then again it is not a great book for beginers in this field. If you want to get A+ certified and have very little prior knowledge of computer hardware then this book is not for you. If you want to know which book is good then buy the 'A+ Certification Exam Guide -- Michael Meyers, Michael Myers; Hardcover'. ITs got lots of pictures and cartoons and explains the whole thing very very intuitively. Also im not sure if the Microsoft book covers the new 1998 exam changes.
Rating: Summary: A necessary book since it is from Microsoft... Review: I read this book with ten years experience in hardware and still learned something new but there are way too many tiepoes!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent!! Review: I started without any previous computer knowledge. This book gave me all I needee to pass my A+ core exam. I took the exam on monday(07/12/99) and made 84%. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be initiated into the field.
Rating: Summary: This book made me pass, so it must be good Review: I used this book to study for the A+ exams, and passed with 92% for the Core and 93% for DOS/Windows. The book IS sufficient, but left me with lots of unanswered questions. So what I'm saying is that you probably cannot go wrong when choosing this one, although you should investigate other study materials and sources as well. Good luck!
Rating: Summary: Very good second read Review: I'm not a microsoft fan, but I love their books. If you already have pretty good knowledge of hardware and software this is a great first read. If your knowledge is a bit lacking, this book makes a great second read. The A+ book by Michael Meyers is an excellent first read. Studying these two books together will give you an excellent foundation in computer hardware and good knowledge in dealing with software.
Rating: Summary: Fine A+ Certification Prep Tool Review: If you've studied from any of MS Press's MCSE books before, you'll feel right at home. The format is the same as those books: few photos, lots of charts and diagrams, and wordy. I found the notation of the estimated lesson time useless because everyone has different learning capabilities and has no bearing on being able to answer the questions. This type of book is more suited to experienced individuals as the information and the the way its presented may be overwhelming to novices. It comes with a CD-ROM.
Rating: Summary: It was a good reference guide. Review: It definitely goes into the elementary of computers. If you've got a lot of experience and your boss is making you take A+ don't get this, get an exam cram book. But if you would like a nice reference guide as well as a study guide that has questions at the end of each chapter to reinforce what you've read, then it is here. I like the format of the book and the type of lessons. It would have also been a little better if they broke it down into Core and Windows/DOS a little more than they do. It would have gotten 5 stars if it had practice questions and it had been run through a spell checker before they published it (what were they thinking?)
