Rating: Summary: Filled with coding errors Review: This book contains very good examples and is easy to follow. It would be even easier to follow if I wasn't having to continuously correct coding errors throughout the book. If you want to beef up on your debugging skills then this book is great. I am a little disappointed in the author and his quality control in publishing this book. It would be a fabulous book otherwise.
Rating: Summary: Great for first time Flash designers Review: This book is essential for anyone who is just beginning Flash. From hour one to twenty-four the author takes you on a step-by-step journey through the design process. Everything from simple animation to adding sounds and user interactivity. It is a great reference that will give you an overall understanding of how Flash works and also allow you to be creative in your design. Each chapter has a few tasks that will help you learn from scratch, rather than just looking at someone else's work on a CD. The author explains each task, not only how but why. There are also some added tips that he shares to help you avoid some of the most common mistakes other flash programmers fall into. You will also learn some basic action scripting, but this is not the main focus of the book. If you are looking to get started quickly with flash, then this is the book. After 5 days of working with this book I am ready to begin publishing my work to the web.
Rating: Summary: just brilliant... Review: this book is the only book that you will ever need to read about actionscript--ever. it simply leaves all the other titles in the dust. for the price of the book, you will be having the finest brains in programming actionscript. my only complain is that i wish i had one-fifth of the brain that gary has for understanding actionscript. my salut goes to gary rosensweig for brilliantly explaining actionscritp the way he does with this book. reading the book has taken my breath away. i want more, pppuuullleeezzz...
Rating: Summary: beg to differ Review: well, i dont mind the missing cd-rom coz i found the fla files online. ok: so i am a beginner, and i needed a book that would get me running on actionscript. well, this book certainly dispelled my fears about actionscript and i can now read actionscript with fair understanding. but where this book fails is when it rushes to explain actionscript CONCEPTs by giving code and devoting a paltry line or two to explain it. sure, i understand that there is a definite time constraint when trying to teach something quickly, but not this fast!! its pretty good uptil hour 8-9, and after that its jerky. inadequate explanations, and "type this and understand what it means" advise. but on the positive side, ALL the examples are real world and often used. u will quickly come up to speed with scrolling, menus, buttons etc. but..... the concept itself? dunno.
Rating: Summary: Gary Rosenzweig - Absolute Genius! Review: What can I say? This book is the absolute best guide to anyone starting out with Actionscript, Gary even put the missing CD files on his website to download after the publishers "forgot" the CD :). This book is a must for any Flash enthusiast!!
