Rating: Summary: No code examples Review: The book is well written but I was hoping for a code example or two. While you can find some on there site... there are some that are just absent. I commend the idea of not putting one of those stupid CDs in the back and putting all their code on the web. But, the operative phrase there is 'ALL their code' which I am not finding on their site...
Rating: Summary: Clearer than the holy bible Review: This book covers all points you need to know about Weblogic Including : - installation - configuration and tuning - deployement and of course ejb, jdbc, transactions .... I encourage you to buy a book about J2EE concepts if your not familiar with ejb, xml, ... but even if the purpose of this book isn't to explain you j2ee it explains enough about it to let you understand well all important j2ee techniques !A must have !
Rating: Summary: Already Obsolete Review: This book might be useful if it covered the current version of the product. The current version of Weblogic is in the 7.x family. I would hate to have someone buy a book this [costly] only to find that the information is inapplicable. A better source of information on BEA Weblogic is the BEA website. There are extensive tutorials and examples as well as the complete line of manuals on the BEA site, all for free. I also had the pleasure of seeing one of the authors speak at a BEA event. He seemed like a great marketing/idea man but did not seem to have a grasp on the technical side of things. Most of the questions he fielded didn't generate any kind of specific answer. He was hawking the book at the time, but he did not seem to think the answers to the audience questions would be found in the current version of the book. Save your money.
Rating: Summary: Buy this book if you're new or less than an expert on WL Review: This book would have saved me weeks of sifting through the docs that BEA provides online. Thoughtfully layed out, this book is a great intro and reference for WebLogic.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Material on WebLogic Review: Very impressive book on WebLogic App Server. Covers important issues on J2EE architecture and API's.
Rating: Summary: BEA Weblogic(R) Server Bible Review: Very well organized book with well-rounded coverage. A must for those who want specialize on the WebLogic Application server, an extremely good resource for WebLogic certification also. A very good reference for project teams developing applications on WebLogic server, the book has sufficient material on all facets though you might need extra material on EJB deployment descriptors (especially CMP Entity EJBs) and ejb-ql (this topic should have been covered in more depth since WebLogic uses slightly different syntax than the standard ejb-ql). A very useful resource for WebLogic certification is at [their website]this goes along very well with the book as it helps focus the reader to certain oft-encountered problems. Remember, your BEA WebLogic 6.1 certification remains valid till the Release 8 comes out! And beware, the actual exam is tougher than the demo exam.
