Rating: Summary: Great for Beginners Review: Quick Course in Mircosoft Access is an excellent book for individuals seeking to learn one of Microsoft's least intuitive applications. The book takes the reader step-by-step in tutorial fashion through all the key skills necessary to building simple databases.Other applications in the Office 2000 suite are very intuitive. It is easy to understand the basics of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, and create simple documents, spreadsheets, and presentation. If you needed help, the help file and index are more than adequate. Access is not like the other Office applications in this sense. New users need to be walked through the basics of constructing a relational database. Normally, I try to experiment with a new application, and then buy one of the huge "Bibles" to augment my knowledge. Again, not so with Access. In order to effectively utilize Access, I found it necessary to get a book that would take me from ground zero to limited proficiency in a short period of time. If you are faced with the daunting task of using Access, this book will have you up and running in no time at all. Buy this book, run through the tutorials, and create your own database from scratch. Then, go out and buy one of the 1000 page "Bibles" so that you can teach yourself some of the more esoteric features and functions.
