Summary: Excellent way to start
Review: Bill Dyszel appears to be unfamiliar with "Expense" for the Visor. "Frankly, the program is limited and is best for people who need to track business spending in order to file expense reports. Even for those people,......... It requires you to choose a description of each expenditure from a noncustomizable list.... It's hard to make the Expense application useful if you can't enter the exact type of expenses you incur." Mr. Dyszel should have reviewed the "Visor Handheld User Guide" for information on "Customizing existing sample templates" and on "Programming the mapping table" to create a customized expense report. Since I purchased the "Handspring Visor For Dummies" for the sole purpose of getting a simpler and more detailed explanation of the customization process, my money was completely wasted.

Summary: Excellent resource for newbies
Review: For those of us who acquired a Handspring Visor but hadn't used an electronic organizer before, this book is an excellent resource. The basics are clearly explained and device-specific. The sequence of "lessons" is logical and builds Visor skills step-by-step. The book has enabled me to use my Visor daily and to retire my well-loved but cumbersome paper organizer. Perhaps it's not a helpful book for people who already have experience with handheld computer organizers but for those of us who know the potential of their Visors but don't have the skills to really take advantage of the devices, the book is an excellent companion and teacher.

Summary: Outstanding! Instant Understanding!
Review: I'm no computer geek, so this book gave me exactly what I needed to get me going with my new Treo right away. I love it!

Summary: You do not "need" this book
Review: If you have a Visor, you are a step ahead of the game. If you can turn it on by yourself, you can skip the first chapter.

This gives little information to anyone who has done any research into their PDA choice. Most of the info covered in this book is easily found on the 'Net in one form or another. The Handspring/Visor specific information does not add any overwhelming value to this guide.

This book would be a helpful guide to someone who may have gotten a Visor as a gift and is pretty clueless as to how to begin, but to anyone who has an even passing familiarity with a PalmOS device, this book offers little.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Limited Utility for Visor owners using MacIntosh
Review: The book is great if you use a Window based computer. However, the author directs you to "...Dummies for Palm Pilot" for MAC related Handspring Visor issues.

If you are a Mac user I recommend the book, "Visor" by Broida and Johnson.

Summary: ALOT OF GOOD INFORMATION INCLUDED
Review: This book contains many things that I consider essential to using a Visor. I am a new user and MUCH of the info in the book I wouldn't have without the book. Maybe I would have figured it out eventually, by fumbling thru or locating it on the help data in the COMPUTER (DESK-TOP NOT THE VISOR) HELP TOPICS. And I am talking about simple issues... for example I downloaded a game program the first day I got the VISOR and wasnt able to delete it the way they describe in the instructions with the software. This is one of the issues I have with the book. If the companies would inclide PROPER documentation with their equiptment half of the dummies books might be obsolete...Now I grant you that the writing in the Dummies books is more fun to read than any manual I ever read BUT manuals are also free. I think the company should be providing you with this info. Another problem I had was the author refered to several other "dummies" books he wrote...including i believe the "palm" book stating alot of the info was the same. I don't know about you but if I had the palm book and I was reading that the book I just bought was pretty much the same as a book I had I would feel pretty foolish for making that purchase. He also talked of other books he wrote in the same sort of computer genre... couldn't tell if he was trying to blow his horn or get me to buy another of his books. Another issue... In the book it was stated that there was a CD with the book. I didn't get one. I don't know if this was an edit problem or the CD was missing but it doesn't look like one was stolen so I think maybe that line was just left in the book by accident. OK OVERALL I LIKED THIS BOOK IT LISTED PLACES TO DOWNLOAD SOFTWARE FOR YOUR VISOR AND HAD MANY HELPFUL HINTS AND TIPS. ALSO IT WAS VERY HELPFUL WITH GRAFFITI. IT JUST GALLS ME THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO BUY A BOOK THAT INCLUDES MOSTLY INFO THAT I THINK THE COMPANY SHOULD PROVIDE FOR NOTHING. I THINK YOU SHOULD BUY THIS BOOK BECAUSE YOU NEED THE INFORMATION IN A CONVENIENT FORMAT AND NOT ON A COMPUTER...I JUST THINK IT'S A SHAME YOU NEED TO BUY IT AT ALL.

Review: This book really doesn't tell you anything you can't find in the users manual. If this book had provided more indepth information on how to maximize my Visor (i.e. mobil use) then it would be much more useful. Some analysis on how Visor and some of the Springboards interact would be great!

Summary: Helpful helpful helpful
Review: This book was a great help. Although the Platinum, like any other visor, is really easy to set up, this makes it just all the easier. It provides many good warnings, tips, reminders, etc. What i especcially liked were the tips that you probably couldn't find many other places. It is not a nessecary by any means, (well, after you have bought it, it becomes one,) but i would definatley recommend it. The 20 dollars is definately worth it, opposed to sitting waiting for an e-mail from customer service, or waiting on the phone with customer service. One small thing. This product, in the way it describes certain things, works perfectly for the Platinum. And i assuming it works perfectly for the deluxe and the visor, but i am not sure about the prism, since it is a step up. But buy it. Great product. I give it 27 stars.

Summary: Great for the Visor, but bad for the Macintosh...
Review: This was a great companion book to my Handspring Visor Deluxe purchase! As a new Handspring user, I found that this book gave me many helpful tips and techniques which have improved my overall efficiency on the Visor. Although some of the information seems a bit repetitive, the author has structured the book so that readers can flip directly to the individual sections that they need. However, as a Macintosh user, I do have one major issue with this book. Be advised that all of the examples are for Windows only. If you are a Mac user, the author suggests also purchasing the Palm Pilot for Dummies book which contains similar examples to those of the Handspring, but with Macintosh information as well. (the author also wrote Palm Pilot for Dummies) Considering that the USB port for the Handspring cradle makes it perfect for Mac users, I found it rather aggravating that the examples in the book were not written for both. But otherwise, this is definitely a must-have if you're jumping into the fabulous world of Handspring!
