Summary: Not Dirty but Good tricks
Review: The Best books ever seen on Photoshop Adobe Photoshop by Design (Hayden/QUETR) && Photoshop 6 Down and Dirty Tricks Perhaps someone already knows such tricks, but who has the time to find it and then where to find the? It is not nice someone put it all together for you to enjoy? Really impressed chapter 10- Interface Design, it is worth looking to it.

Summary: Roz Fruchtman reviews Photoshop 6.0 Down & Dirty Tricks
Review: I just finished reviewing Photoshop 6.0 Down & Dirty Tricks and I think it is the best tutorial/tips and tricks book that I have ever seen. The things that I like best about the book are the:

1) huge screen shots and display of graphic images; 2) the generous step-by-step directions; 3) clarity of the explanations; 4) large easy to read text and displays 5) many special effects -- I found effects here that I have always wanted to know how to do and could never find easy/simple directions/instructions or even instructions for at all. Now I have them all in this one phenomenal book.

If you don't believe me... the next time you are in a bookstore take a look and see if you can find this book there. For sure, you *will not* leave it on the bookshelf. This book will make even the novice Photoshop user look like an experienced expert!(What a great Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa gift this would make! If you already bought your gifts, why not throw in this book as an added bonus. The recipient(s) will be grateful you did.)

Although the book weighs in at 228 pages -- approximately 8x10 -- I wish it were more! Seriously, I think that anyone interested in/using Photoshop 6.0 needs to have this book to add to their library. I wish I had it a long time ago. Scott Kelby just got himself a new fan!

Summary: Great Book! Nice Presentation
Review: I received the book today. When I sat down at my kitchen table I was surprised. The tutorials are so well taught, and user friendly that I had to go boot up my computer and use these tutorials. If you want some great effects and to learn a thing or two about Photoshop get this book!

Summary: What an AWESOME Book! Own Photoshop? You need this book!
Review: I find it hard to believe that anyone who has actually PURCHASED & READ this book would give this book anything less than 4 stars! I personally found it to be worth 5 stars! This book IS just what it the title states, Down & Dirty Tricks. If you want to learn some great tricks for Photoshop and apply them to your everyday use, then Scott Kelby has created the book for you! I found this book easy to read and enjoyable. The only thing I could even possibly think about knocking is the lack of more talk of Wacom Tablets, (hence the 4 out of 5 stars) but then I did find a great Wacom Tablet video at PhotoshopVideos.com. Over all, if you own Photoshop, than this book is a must read!

Summary: This book rocks
Review: This book stays on my desk right next to my computer so it's always within reach when I need a creative boost. I love being able to duplicate the incredible effects he shows that I would never be able to figure our myself. He has an incredible ability to take very complicated things and break them down to their basic steps. Whether you just follow the step-by-step directions to reproduce the effects in the book or use them as a launching pad for your own creativity, you'll love this book.

Summary: Excellent book - Must Buy
Review: This book is correctly named. The whole book contains "tricks" or more correctly "techniques." Organized by chapter/similarity, Scott Kelby walks you through each technique starting from scratch. For some of the techniques, he shows you multiple ways to achieve similar versions based on level of difficulty. (Meaning he'll show you a simple way first and then move on to progressively harder ways that look even better but are tougher for more novice users to follow.) The cool thing with this book is the consistentcy of his lessons, the clear language for explaining the techniques and the very appropriate graphics. One thing to be sure and also notice are the great tips that line the edges of the techniques in a yellow banded area. These are MUST reads. I learned just as much from them as I did his tutorials.

In summary, I KNOW my work looked better / more professional after buying / using this book. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Summary: Public Domain Tricks Recycled
Review: As a longtime Photoshop user (version 2.0), I remember seeing thefirst issue of Kelby's Photoshop magazine and the birth of hisNational Association of Photoshop Users. Unfortunately, this bookrecycles much content from the magazine's history, and offers littlenew work. Worse, as is common knowledge among most NAPP members, mostof these "tricks" have long been available for free on theWeb at various Photoshop tutorial sites built both as a public serviceby designers and those looking to sell banner ad space. Couple thiswith the generally poor printing of the book's color plates, and youshould seriously question purchasing this self-published book, particularly if you're a professional designer. If you've got anInternet connection, save yourself some money and find this stuff forfree with a good search engine.

Summary: Down & Dirty is Down to Earth
Review: The author Scott Kelby certainly knows how to be down to earth in his Down & Dirty Tricks book. I found his style to be simple enough for the occasional photoshop user as well as time saving tips for the professional needing to meet tight deadlines and please a variety of clients. What impressed me most was the abundance of helpful tips on a wide range of subjects and the step by step approach found through-out the book. I found the sections on drop shadow effects and working with type especially helpful to me in order to satisfy my clients' needs that have a limited budget but still need incredible looking pieces. I enjoyed the overall layout of the book and the fact that it showed you color results of what you are looking to achieve. I would highly recommend this book to the beginner as well as the professional looking to always expand his knowledge, surely this book will do that for them; and at a price both could afford. Out of all the books I own about photoshop, this one will certainly NOT grow dust!

Summary: Lack of Photographic content
Review: I was very disappointed in this book. It has little to do with "Photo" in Photoshop. The first 75 pages are on drop shadows and type effects. Only 25 pages devoted to working with photo techniques. The other 200 pages are devoted to Text effects, illustrating, and web page effects. Adobe offers Illustrator and Pagemaker for these purposes .It is difficult to duplicate his effects without a CD containing the images that he uses.

Summary: The best Photoshop book I've read!
Review: This book has taught me some great tricks as well as set me up to learn even more through experimenting with these tricks and tips. The book is in full color and has color examples with each step. I can't wait for Scott to come up with another edition.
