Summary: Photoshop 6 Down and Dirty Tricks
Review: My initial enthusiam for this book was changed to a feeling of disappointment when it arrived. After an initial glance through, I thought, yes, can't wait to read this. however, after a brief period it proved to be very disappointing, despite all the hype. My feeling was that I could have gleaned as much information by downloading a few tutorials on the net (and then some). When I buy a book, I want something more than these freely downloadable tutorials. If I could have been bothered, I should have sent the book back for a refund. Just my personal opinion!

Summary: Worth more than its price!!
Review: If you see effects all over the place and wonder "How'd they do that?" then this book is the answer! Includes custom shadows, interface design, text effects, you name it... This book is exactly what it claims to be and if you want an excellent, full color book which is written with humor and easy instructions... This one's for you! I dare you to try and put this book down before turning EVERY page! :)

Summary: Absolutamente más de lo que esperaba

Summary: Get right to work
Review: If you know something about Photoshop, then you can get right to work with this book. If you are a beginner, you won't be once you get involved in the tutorials. The author is very funny and the lessons are step by step with full color photos. You can match your results with the ones in the book. This a variety of subject matter from conservative to the hot new trends. As an artist, I have just added graphic arts to my portfolio. With Down and Dirty Tricks, I feel as if I have been working in the field for years. You don't even have to start at page one, just jump right in anywhere and start working. This is our textbook in my Advanced Photoshop class. You won't want to stop working! If he would only write something on Illustrator 9!

Summary: Great Book, oodles of fun!
Review: This book convinced me to join NAPP. I was that impressed by this book. I figured that the people that published the book, NAPP, had to have something good going for them!

It's a GREAT book. I still need to learn *a lot* more about Photoshop (though I use it a lot) and I decided that I needed to push myself a bit to advance my skills. So, I got several Photoshop books, including this one. The other more "basic" books were needed, and helpful, but this book really got me excited! I find I am learning all sorts of little details about Photoshop (new keyboard shortcuts, new functions, new features) from this book! Not only am I learning the "tricks" (which are great fun) but I am also learning Photoshop BETTER in the process.

If you are a bit of a Photoshop newbie, you owe it to yourself to get this book. You will have fun, and you will find yourself becoming more well-rounded in Photoshop!

Summary: Limited - No New Tricks
Review: I was very disappointed in this book. The first 1/3 of the book is dedicated to drop shadows and type effects. The rest has very little coverage on photo techniques. Lots of text effects, illustrating, and web page effects. The dirty tricks that are demonstrated are almost identical to those in the PS 5 edition. I was expecting new tricks that domonstrated the new features in PS 6. For instance, new tutorials, new effects, photo retouching techniques, and so forth. Since I'm also a NAPP member (and receive the Photoshop User magazine) this "dirty tricks" book contains much of the same material presented in that magazine (over the past months) and offers no really new material. It's apparent that this was rushed to market to garner the PS 6 user market before other books, whose author's were working on new material, became available. Worse yet, many of these "dirty tricks" are available for free on the Web as public domain at various Photoshop tutorial sites. I wish I had not purchased this book.

Summary: Easy Reading!
Review: I just received my copy of Scott Kelby's book and I can put it down only long enough to put my hands on the keyboard and try out these tips! His humor and simplicity make this book very easy to follow. Each trick is fully illustrated step by step, including screen shots. On each page on either side of the demonstration are tips and explanations in text. This book is a goldmind as far as where it will take your creativity. I never knew I could do half this stuff, he makes it so easy, that I get it on the first try! I'm going to buy another copy of this book to give to my brother-in-law. I'm also going to look for other books by Scott Kelby-hopefully in Illustrator.

Summary: Simple to understand
Review: The techniques were very simple and really understandable. I do use this as a reference book for quick look ups also. It is a shame there wasn't more to the book. A great assest to your photoshop library!
