Rating: Summary: Freeman Knocking Down Walls! Review: I have to say I was totally clueless about how to promote my music. I was spamming people and making lame attempts at setting up gigs but I wasn't getting anywhere. Freeman's books taught me A LOT about this business. Since I started using some of his techniques I've booked gigs for EVERY weekend and I got the local radio stations playing my singles at least a couple times a day. I also started a website and got people talking about my music on newsgroups. Don't let the title full you, this book is all about promoting music OFF-LINE and ON-LINE!! I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: I read this back when it first came out Review: I read this electronic book when it first came out and it totally changed the way I promote my music. I've sold over 1000 copies of my CD in the last year, and a lot of those sales came from my mailing list and my website -- which I built using tips from this book. I didn't write a review back then because a lot of good stuff had already been said about it here, but then I read some dude trashing the book on a message board. Why? Well, it turns out HE ALSO WROTE a book on promoting music. Whatever.Buzz Your Mp3 is packed with a lot of great information, a neat story about NOW is NOW, and an awesome interview about the band +live+ with the director of their fanclub! To summarize: 5/5, 5 stars, Buzz Your mp3 rocks hard!

Rating: Summary: I was Very Happy with this but... Review: I was Very Happy with this but I wish it was available in print form of some kind. It's a small book, but I'd perfer to hold it in my hands. That said, my band doubled the sales of our CD at our gigs within a month of using some of the tactics in this guide. And a lot more people have been showing up at the shows, which has led to bigger shows in other towns. I actually see the small size of this guide to be a plus -- none of the BS that you find in 200 or 500 page books that cost ten times as much!!!
Rating: Summary: best yet Review: I've bought several books on promoting music, but this is the best one yet. It is very easy to understand and I really liked that fact that it was an interactive workbook. I could follow right along and do things as it suggests. It really a great step by step guide to how to put your band on the map. Based on this book I would buy anything that Brian Freeman published and any of the other books in the Buzz Your series. These people really know what they are doing.
Rating: Summary: best I've ever read Review: I've spent way too much money this year on books and classes about promoting music. But that was better than what I did last year, which was waste a lot of money on "doing it my own way" -- which didn't work at all. So I tried all these books and did what they said and got nothing. Nothing at all. A few gigs, a few copies of my demo sent out, but man, I was getting that before. So a friend tells me about this Brian Freeman dude. Says he knows a lot about promoting stuff. I check out his website and see that he has this book. Only it isn't like a real book, it's an "interactive workbook" that you download to your computer (it opens using some free software that should already be pre-installed on your machine, but if it isn't, Amazon has it for free). I thought this was kind of cool. So I paid my $9 and downloaded Buzz Your MP3, and started following the steps in the workbook. Like the man says, you don't read this book, you use it. 100s of tips, lots of ideas, and a really neat section on how to brainstorm (remember that from school, when the teacher would tell you to brainstorm some ideas? Well Freeman tells you what your teacher didn't tell you!). So far things are going pretty well. Got some good gigs lined up, I'm going to appear on a local TV program, been doing radio shows, and I had some agents interested in my demo. I don't know where this is going to lead, but I'm doing 1000 times better now than I was last year. I haven't even really started using all the tips in this book. It's that good. Also, the stuff about LIVE and NOW is NOW was really cool -- very motivating. I highly recommend Buzz Your MP3 for any musician!
Rating: Summary: a nice little book if Review: if you don't mind it only being an e book and not a real printed book. i liked the info a lot but didn't like having to read it on the screen or print it out or whatever. don't get me wrong, i learned a lot from this book. just wish i had a real book version. loses a star for not a print book, but good info
Rating: Summary: Worth getting-- especially for the brainstorming chapter!! Review: If you get this book and only read the chapter on brainstorming, it will be worth it. You may think you've done everything you can possibly do to get the word out about your mp3/music, but you're nowhere close, I promise. This book will help you to think about your approach to the music business and get you in a different mindset.
Rating: Summary: Useless Review: In a word, obvious. This document in all likelihood could never get published in a traditional manner. There's virtually nothing of value here that any self-respecting musician hasn't thought of a million times before in a million different ways. The title is really misleading. There's maybe a page, possibly two of generic tips about grass-roots Internet promotion...start a website, join a news group, etc. No meat here. The author's approach to self-promotion is so general and immediately obvious as to be applicable to nearly anything. For example, "...produce professional-looking posters and send them to clubs..." or "...leave your business cards...anywhere where people might pick them up..." That kind of advice might be useful if you're ten years old and are trying to attract attention to your weekend car wash. Apart from that, well... ... what can I say, he's got stamina. The author has absolutely no credentials in the music biz and his only claim to fame is starting the leading fan-site for Steven King. After this, he got "hired" to promote the band "Now is Now." Hmm...never heard of them? Exactly. I'm not trying to be nasty or insulting, but I find it galling that someone with no credentials, ideas, or track-record would presume to take the tone of an authority and write a "How-to" book regarding something he knows little to nothing about. So, unless the notion of making a flyer and a quick visit to Kinko's strikes you as groundbreaking, pass on Buzz and save your nine bucks. 1/5
Rating: Summary: AMMMMMMAAAAAAZZZZZING! Review: In all seriousness, this was a fast read (it's only 100 pages), but it was packed with great ideas and some neat articles too. (NOW is NOW is one of my fav new bands, but people who only like Britney Spears and Boy Bands probably haven't heard of them yet. Probably 'cause they Rock!) Some of the material was pretty generic and could work for promoting anything, but there were so many ideas I had never thought of before and I think I'm pretty good at this self-promotion game. Our shows (bars and parks -- park shows are a neat idea I got from this book) have been packed as of late, and our self-pressed CDs are moving a little faster than they were last week. Thanks to the Buzz team. You were a big help!
