Summary: Very thankful for this reference
Review: After struggling with another C++ text I was lucky enough to come across this one. It's very easy to understand provided you didn't fail middle school English and have a decent knowledge of math.

Bronson has saved "average Joes" like myself from pain in programming by making an easy-to-understand volume of C++. Even though it is unlikely I'll ever write another program in any language after taking two programing classes, I do have this laying around just in case.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent book for beginners
Review: C++ is the most difficult programming language to learn, yet Bronson does an excellent job in introducing topics painlessly. This book progresses in a very smooth fashion from topic to topic, and if the reader works all exercises at the end of each section, the concepts will be firmly grasped. Be careful, though, because this book does have quite a few typos, but they are easy to spot since the understanding of the material makes them obvious. The only drawback can be that not all the exercises have answers in the back of the book. Other than that, I would highly recommend this book to someone that wants to understand C++ and get a general knowledge of it, bearing in mind that this book will not make you an expert.

Summary: Absolutely top notch introduction to C++
Review: I loved this book. I had tried to learn C++ before with no success. After reading this book I was able to get right into coding, even the class followed the book verbatum, it's that good. None of the code relied on other project in the book I didnt care about. And all the examples come on a diskette included. A great way to learn! I suggest it to anybody that wants to learn to code without OS specific APIs.

Summary: BAD BOOK!
Review: I use this book for a C/C++ course. I would NOT suggest using this book for college course. This book as so many mistakes in it. Hardly any of the programs in Chapter 14 (File I/O) will work on a unix system. Many of the solutions in the back of the book are wrong. This Book does not cover important topics such as: Enumerations Conditional operator typedef statement

Summary: Informative Basic C++ book
Review: I would of never bought this book but it was for a class. Mainly focuses on C and then gets into C++. However my class never made it to the C++ portion where the author introduces OOP and classes. According to my professor, this is a two semester book. However, I learned quite a bit from this book and I already was familar with C and C++. I would recommend this book to anybody who wants to learn C and C++. However this book is not going to be very helpful for Visual C++ topics but still a good overall starting book on C/C++.

Summary: A Fanastic book on the subject of C++
Review: I've been trying to learn C++ for a year and a half with no success. I tried the learn C++ in 21 days series and the Teach Yourself C++ by Herbert Schildt, but none of these came close the Gary Bronson's book. His style and explanation of fundamental concepts are to be be applauded. This book focuses on the fundamentals and gradually builds up your skill to a competent level. Its a great book for beginners and I guarantee you will not be dissapointed. I also purchased his other book The First Book of C which was equally good. I am eagerly awaiting his book on Java

Summary: Absolutely top notch introduction to C++
Review: In trying to make the transition from procedural languages learned years ago to C++, I kept finding myself stumped by books with indecihperable prose and leaps of logic. While authors like Stroustrup, Ellman, etc obviously know their stuff, they don't know how to explain it to the average person. This book is the best textbook that I have *ever* owned, bar none. It is crystal clear and logical from beginning to end, and assumes no prior kowledge. I highly recommend it!
