Summary: finally here: well-written, authoritative book on bluetooth
Review: in the beginning there was the hype and the specifications. all 1500 pages worth of specs. i know, i tried to look at some of those. i knew that if the massive deployment every trade rag predicted was to ever happen, it would need 2 things: (1) educating the masses on the technology, and (2) a flood of inexpensive, interoperable product offerings. this book is the answer to (1) now we just have to hope manufacturers actually deliver on (2). the book strikes a fine balance: it can be used by folks merely interested in a brief summary of bluetooth, as well as by those of us more interested in gaining a more detailed understanding. if you're actually involved in developing bluetooth products, they've also managed to structure the book such that it can be used as a (very necessary) guide to the official specifications. in terms of technology, i always go with authoritative sources/authors, even if there's a tradeoff in terms of readability. gladly, miller/biskikian know how to explain (not just create) technology.

Summary: The authoritative "Insider's Guide" to Bluetooth Technology
Review: On behalf of my co-author, Chatschik Bisdikian, and me, I wanted to tell you a little about our book "Bluetooth Revealed". Both Chatschik and I have a lot of time invested in Bluetooth wireless communication. We both participated in the Bluetooth specification's development in the original Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). That specification turned out to be over 1,500 pages long, and we believed that an authoritative yet accessible explanation of the specification would be appreciated by a wide audience. This is the reason we wrote "Bluetooth Revealed: The Insider's Guide to an Open Specification for Global Wireless Communication".

Our book comes to you from authors who are SIG insiders. We not only explain the specification in easy-to-understand terms, but we also explain the rationale for many of the specification's design decisions in a way that only people who participated in the specification's development can do.

We have endeavored to produce a book that is of interest to industry practitioners, students, teachers and anyone else who is interested in this exciting new technology. We hope that you find our book valuable.

Summary: Nice, Quick, and Concise Bluetooth Reference
Review: The authors did an excellent job in summarizing the Bluetooth (BT) protocols and profiles. What makes this book valuable is the authors' ability to take the thick BT specifications and reduce them into a book that can be easily digested. Both writers are involved with the BT development, and the insights on certain trade-offs are most welcoming.

The authors should be commended for writing a first-class book that is fun to read, not too thick, and contains enough materials to be used as a quick BT reference. If you were to own only one BT book, then this book is it :-) (as of today).

Summary: A well-written book for those with an interest in Bluetooth
Review: The Bluetooth technology offers more than a world without wires. It offers us a world in which our electronic devices may communicate with one another whenever we want them to communicate.

Bluetooth devices can form ad-hoc piconets without the need for an installed infrastructure. Think of sitting at a conference table and sharing the files on your laptop with the laptops and PDAs of your colleagues; carrying your laptop into an office that is not your own and being able to print a memo on a local printer; bringing your cell phone into a rental car and having it work with an embedded hands-free car kit. This promise may be fulfilled because of the work of the members of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) to develop specifications to assure interoperability for Bluetooth-equipped devices.

The authors of "Bluetooth Revealed" have helped to develop the Bluetooth specifications. Their book contains an introduction to the technology and the Bluetooth usage cases, It moves quickly to the technical details of the Bluetooth specification, discusses the Bluetooth profiles, and also provides a brief view of the future of Bluetooth, Do not be fooled by the whimsical cover art; this is a serious book for those with a professional interest in Bluetooth. The book is well written and has many well-drawn illustrations. If you like Bluetooth, you will like this book.

About the Reviewer: I qualify as a Bluetooth insider. I represent my company (a Bluetooth promoter that also employs the two authors) on the Bluetooth Car Profile Working Group. My enthusiam for this technology is apparent in my review.

Summary: It'll put you to sleep
Review: This book bombards you with accronyms! You can't get around the fact that the Bluetooth specification is filled with them, but this book doesn't give you a big picture view of what's going on. I'd recommend "Connect Without Cables" instead. Neither book will leave you with an "Ok, I get it" feeling after the first read, but CWC will certainly get your started in the right direction.

Summary: Frustrating
Review: This book has good potential but doesn't follow it's topic clearly at all. I pity the novice trying to make sense of the Bluetooth spec here. There's too much mixing of levels and not nearly enough illustrations and examples. I felt I was presented with a lot of messy information and a very weak understanding of its structure.

Summary: Vital to all Beginners
Review: This book was incredible!!! As I sophomore, I was fascinated by wireless technology and was given the chance to do research on Bluetooth. I was struggling to understand the 1,500 page specifications. Ever since reading this book, I feel incredibly adept with the BT specs. Thanks to this book, I had the confidence to give a presentation to fellow students and professors on how the technology works.

Summary: A Good Bluetooth Book for Manager
Review: This is a good book for manager who has electronic engineering background. It provides an overall concept of bluetooth that is applicable for management. I think this book is also good for engineers because it mentions regulatory requirements that may be incorporated into the design.
