Rating: Summary: Nothing Revealed Review: A first, I was drawn by the Dungens & Dragons type of cover design. I thought that this would be an easy to read guide that a novice might understand. Well I was wrong! This book goes over the reader's head and doesn't explain this technology in a concise manner. It lacks the tables and charts that help visualize the material that is hard to grasp at first. Hence, I would recomend Muller's Blutooth Demystified as a better starting point for those actually interesed in learning all about Bluetooth.
Rating: Summary: Major Disappointment Review: After all the hype and the previous reviews of this book, I have to confess that I've found it to be a major disappointment. Much is made of the authors' having contributed to version 1.0B of the Bluetooth spec...Well, I suppose that if you helped author the specification this confusing melange of propaganda, explanations, and wishful thinking is the book for you. For the rest of us, the larger members of the SIG do provide some detailed Bluetooth explication on their respective corporate sites.
Rating: Summary: Bluetooth Revealed review Review: Before I bought this book, I looked through the 1070 pages of the Bluetooth specifications and saw the need to write a book about bluetooth, which in a more understandable form describes this very important technology. After I received the book and read through most of it, I do not see the need for another Bluetooth book anymore. Most of the things in there are very well and understandably described without sacrificing the necessary technical details. Thanks, you saved me a lot of time. I also hope you keep it updated, when the next releases of Bluetooth come along. My best regards, Wolfgang Singer
Rating: Summary: Bluetooth in a language I can understand! Review: Bluetooth is a very much a bleeding-edge technology right now.Experts are hard to come by, and published reading matter is as rareas rocking horse droppings.I'd recommend 'Bluetooth Revealed' asthus far it is the only BT specific publication I've read that isclearly written by a team that understands Bluetooth, not justregurgitated radio principles and good book writing etiquette, butBluetooth. The book breaks down the layers and protocols and detailsboth what you can as well as what you can't do with thetechnology. If like me, you need to get under the hood of thespecification as opposed to a lightweight coffee table read, then thisbook will fit the bill. Cheers Nigel Cerulic Inc...
Rating: Summary: Poorly Written Book Review: Book is boring and dry. The book does not educate but a mere and dry presentation of facts taken from Bluetooth specifications. It is a disappointment - the cover looks great but the content is a no.
Rating: Summary: Decent overview, but no code examples Review: Don't expect that you will be writing applications using the Bluetooth's protocol stack right after reading this book. There are no code examples. I was able to write some Bluetooth application but after some intense study of some sample software. I suppose this book is mostly for beginners starting at ground zero who want to get started on understanding how Bluetooth works. I also wished it talked more about the differences between Bluetooth and 802.11 like it did for IrDA

Rating: Summary: Harald Blaatand ¿Bluetooth¿ II Revealed - Thank You! Review: EXCEPTIONAL! At last a definitive technical resource to answermy questions. The book provides a detailed overview of the BluetoothProtocol stack and the reasoning behind most of the decisions thatwere made for the V1.0 specifications. I recommend this book to thosethat are new to the Bluetooth wireless technology as well as theseasoned network technologists...
Rating: Summary: For beginner, 4 stars. For advanced reader, 3 stars Review: For Beginner -- This book basically is the shorter and with more understandable english version of the confusing and lengthy spec. For a beginner, try to read the spec is not very easy. Tis book provides a good starting point. However, this book doesn't tell the whole story, such like the relation between L2CAP channel and baseband channel. The initiator of the L2CAP channel must be the Master of the piconet?? Such confuing concept is not well explained in this book for a beginner and when the beginner starting picking up, he should start finding many such ill-explained (or not explained) concept in this book. For advanced reader -- This book tells something but doesn't answer the common confusion in the spec. One example is that on p.134, it said the L2CAP_Connection_Request is for a connection-oriented channel and a PSM value is needed. However, on p.130, the connection-oriented PDU, there is no PSM value and PSM only exists in connectionless channel as shown on p.129. Maybe the answer is somewhere in the book but I haven't found it. So in short this book resolves some confusions in the spec but it also brings up more confusions. Overall, I think this book is worthy of owning and I strongly recommend it to everybody who who wants to study Bluetooth technology. However I don't think it deserves 5 stars as other people have given to it. It is just the author could have done better and I am hoping that they can make more explainations and solve many people's confusions (go to www.bluetooth.com forum and www.egroups.com bluetooth discussion, it is not difficult to find the common confusions that peopel have) instead of rewriting the spec with better english.
Rating: Summary: An excellent introduction to Bluetooth Review: I found "Bluetooth Revealed" to be an excellent source of information that is well organized and clearly written. As someone that does not have a deep technical background I was thankful for the authors' treatment of this complex subject. Miller and Bisdikian do an excellent job in describing the background of this technology and the rationale behind many decisions. I found the description of the protocol stack at the right technical level and now have a much better understanding of how Bluetooth compares and contrasts to other competing technologies. This book is now my "official" Bluetooth reference.
