Rating: Summary: Simply simple Review: Great for the starter who's trying to get "over the hump" of fathoming the intricacies of this prog.
Rating: Summary: Five stars?!? I don't think so.... Review: I have to say I slightly prefer the "Complete Idiot's" guides rather than the "for Dummies" series although I think both titles are regrettable. (Is it a complete guide for idiots, or a guide for complete idiots?) And how can you be an idiot or dummy if you are bound and determined to learn something and willing to spend your good money doing it? Sounds smart to me. Nevertheless....This book is very very useful. Photoshop is difficult! The more powerful the software, the more difficult to use. And some of the more arcane features of the software are important to get to know, like managing color (especially useful if you do web publishing or digital photography.) This part of the book is worth the price alone. All in all, you can't go wrong if you want to learn Photoshop. If you don't mind the silly Idiot title (isn't this getting a bit old by now?) you'll have a highly useful resource to get started doing some great things.
Rating: Summary: Humorous and Educational Review: I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. Photoshop 6 can be intimidating for anything but the more basic applications. This book helped me expand the possibilities of my creativity. Every other Photoshop book I've read put me to sleep when they discussed color, the "Color Your World" chapter, actually made sense and taught me how to use the color options effectively. The humor in the book (chapter titles and random statements smattered throughout) were an added treat (except for the one about carnival workers...grrr). All in all, an exceptional tool for anyone who thinks they already know how to use Photoshop 6 and a must for anyone just starting out.
Rating: Summary: The best so far Review: I think I have learned more from this book then any of the others I have had . I still don't know it all but I know a lot more thanks to this book.
Rating: Summary: If your new to photoshop this is 4 u Review: If your a beginner this is the perfect book to lay your foundations in the world of photoshop. The style of the book is exciting and humourous. Some photoshop books such as adobes classroom in a book can leave the beginner confused with questions. The idiots guide will give the user self-belief to experiment and after reading this book you will be able to move on in confidence to more advanced tutorial books.
Rating: Summary: Mis-Titled Book Review: The author writes in a friendly, likable style, and I think he really knows his stuff, but I'm totally new to Photoshop and, contrary to what is implied by the title and in the Introduction, this is NOT a beginner's book. He does cover some very basic material, and there are a few tutorials included, but sometimes he also gets into some fairly advanced (for beginners) concepts in the same sections, as if he were writing for intermediate-level users. I think this book is really more geared toward Photoshop users who already know all the basics of earlier versions of the program. I'm going to try a genuine tutorial Photoshop 6 book, then maybe come back to the "Idiot's Guide" to pick up on the helpful tips the author has to offer. If it were titled "The Intermediate Idiot's Guide to Adobe Photoshop 6" I might actually give it four stars or more, because potential purchasers would know that it's not a beginner's book, and not be drawn in to something that somewhat misrepresents itself.
Rating: Summary: Good but.... Review: This book is very helpful for people who really want to know how Photoshop works, and what all the tools and functions are for in the program. I read this book a year ago when I started using Photoshop for the first time. And it *definitely* helped me to learn my way around Photoshop, however if you're looking to know only about drawing and/or "painting"/coloring in Photoshop, DO NOT get this book. This book covers all aspects and tools of the program and not just drawing. But, if you are looking to find your way around PS6 and want to feel a little more comfortable with the terminology and tools, this would be a great book to own, and a decent price to own it at.
