Rating: Summary: Windows 2000 Server for new admins and NT4 admins. Review: I've written this book as an introduction to Windows 2000 Server for both new network administrators, and also for admins that know NT 4.0 well, but need to upgrade their skills. I think the best part of the book is the way I show individual tasks, such as adding a user, working with partitions, and navigating the registry, in a clear step-by-step manner, with plenty of screen shots. I hope you find this book to be a valuable addition to your "computer library."
Rating: Summary: Excellent - Straight to the point Review: This books is exactly what I was looking for. It's a "what is" and "how to" guide to setting up and configuring Win2K Server. Unlike other books, it does not have useless scientific theory, it simply explains you what things are (such as DNS, NAT etc.), how they work and step by step instructions on how to install them and configure them. It is a must have for anyone who is setting a new Win2K network or is an Administrator.

Rating: Summary: Excellent, but not really for newbies Review: This is really a wonderful book. Straight facts, plain and simple. But it is really intended for a reader with "some" experience.

Rating: Summary: Makes a left turn Review: While the opening chapters of this book do give you a basic grasp of setting up the server, after that, you're on your own. It gets far too deep into IP protocol theory. I needed to setup users and groups and apply policies, and in the index of the Practical book the word USERS appears only in the preface. It surely was not as practical as one would like. ... The Practical book can get you started but you definitely will need another resource for setting up day-to-day operations. I was rather disappointed after reading all the other glowing reviews here on Amazon, but it wasn't a total waste of money.
