Summary: An excellent book about the BGP4 protocol.
Review: This book is about the BGP4 protocol - there's a brief chapter about IP & IP routing, which serves to refresh one's memory, and the rest of the book is about the protocl itself.

This book is not tied to any specific router implementation, but rather describes the protocol 'academicaly' in a clear language and with all the needed details.

It's an excellent book for two purposes - people who want to study the protocol academicaly, e.g. for a course in computer networks or Internet Protocols, and arent into studying the RFCs that sink into the details, and for people who manage routers/networks and want to understand the protocol before reading a lengthier text specific to some implementation.

Summary: Brilliant
Review: This book is awesome - perhaps the best routing protocol book available. Sure it doesn't tie into any single vendors hardware - but for the theory and architecture of HOW BGP works this book is worth it's weight in gold. It might be only 140 pages but with no padding and no filler this book rocks.

Summary: Hit the spot
Review: This book must be as close to perfect as a book on this topic can be.
My previous experience with BGP is zero.
I have a fair knowledge of general routing and TCP/IP and some, mostly theoretical, knowledge of other routing protocols such as RIP and OSPF.

This book, with it's extraordinary simplicity on such an advanced topic, really hit the spot for me.

I read it over two days and now I feel that I have a big deal of understanding for routing issues concerning ISPs, and their customers for that part. It also explained some of the behaviour on this network we call the Internet.

Simple symbolic illustrations also did their part of the overall impression.

All details were covered and I recommend reading through the whole book in a fairly short period of time (it's not one of those bricks that take forever to read and never gets to the point) and then use it as a reference when needed after that.

The only thing missing is the practical training. I guess when interactive electronic books develop, that will be available as well.
After all, practice makes perfect.
But this book is perfect as far as the theory goes.

Summary: Finally BGP4 without Cisco Configurations
Review: This book was a pleasure to read because it focussed on the technology issues regarding BGP4. There was enough TCP/IP to serve as a review and then discussion on the topic of the book. Whereas how to configure a router is important, it is refreshing to read a book that talks about the technical aspects and leaves configuration to other books (especially Cisco configurations)

Summary: Good Starters Book
Review: This is a good book for anyone wanting to learn a bit about BGP4, without reading boring RFC's -- However, if you plan on using BGP in your network enviroment, I would have to suggest that you get the "Internet Routing Architectures" by Bassam Halabi.

Summary: Best book on BGP
Review: This is an awesome introduction to BGP. I highly recommend it for anyone just learning BGP and also as a review for those who already know it. Good luck.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: gentle introduction to BGP4
Review: This looks like a nice book for its size. The definitive book on this subject is the Halabi book - the title of that book doesn't really describe it well - but a smaller, lesss detailed book like this will be more accessible to many readers. Network admins and even entry-level network analysts at ISPs will find this book easier to deal with than Halabi as a gentler introduction to BGP4.

Summary: Was not impressed with this book...
Review: Very small book (115 pages). In his rush to overview TCP/IP in his intro, he failed to mention anything about ARP, I guess he deemed ARP a very unimportant protocol. If you are looking for a very in depth book for BGP. Look for "Internet Routing Architectures" Cisco Press. There is no comparison.
