Rating: Summary: Not one of Sams best Review: After learning Photoshop from Sams 24 Photoshop book, I expected another straightforward, easy-to-understand study guide for Adobe GoLive. This was harder to follow, perhaps because GoLive is more complicated; but also because of mistakes and omissions. The program icon "Fetch URL" is mislabelled "point&shoot"; the remote rollover and floating box examples are poorly written and confusing; and the downloadable examples from the book's web site are a pain to unzip and use. It would have been better to have a CD with the examples included. Despite these problems I would still consider this to be a good introduction to GoLive. It just might require a second reading.
Rating: Summary: Read it again! Review: After reading some of the reviews here I was afraid I'd made a poor choice because I had picked up this book in a store, but that couldn't be farther from the truth! The book is really easy to follow, laid out logically and the steps worked perfectly for me. Could it be that maybe some readers are new to computers and just don't understand the basics? Anyway, I created a Website using GoLive templates and couldn't be happier. All I have to do is update the template and Poof! my whole site is updated, too. Thanks to this book I learned this and lots of other great tricks. I especially like some of the tips in the book that relate to the Web in general. I like it. Anyway, that's my input. Hope it helps and thanks for listening.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I am not an experienced GoLive user, so I approached this book as a beginner. At first glance, it covers all the basic topics necessary to get to know the program. But I found CONSTANT omissions of steps in the descriptions of processes. Sometimes I fooled around and discovered the missing step, and sometimes I felt like the fool when I couldn't replicate the steps with the intended result. I've used other books in the series, like LiveMotion 2 in 24 Hours, which I found not only well written, but containing thoroughly checked exercises. The book is a decent introduction as long as you do not expect the step-by-step to be accurate. To me, this smacks of sloppiness on the part of the authors.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Start Review: I found this book to be a very good introduction to Web design using Golive 6. The lessons are short but well presented, they are fast, and they can be used immediately to my own practice projects. Although the GoLive interface seemed so unassuming when you first open the program, it can get filled up quickly once you begin working. The authors made sure that you don't get lost amidst the plethora of palletes. There is also the confidence that I am reading the work of competent Golive designers who can actually communicate what they know and teach an unknown audience cleverly. Sam's formula, if I may venture a guess works well for this book: plain English, competent authors, short but lively presentation and an exciting software. In only a few hours, I was already making my own web pages and amazed my friends. This book is a very good start in Web design using Golive 6. It is one of my best and most useful books!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I had never used GoLive before and was kind of freaked out when I first opened the program. Then I went to an Adobe seminar and one of the authors of this book was a presenter. He was really excellent and knowledgeable, so I decided to buy the book. I'm glad I did! I've now created two Websites and am starting my third. This time I'm getting paid! I know I still have a lot to learn, but this book got me up and running FAST. The best thing about GoLive is the way it works with my Photoshop files. If you haven't used this yet, check out the convert to banner trick!!!! Saves you tons of time!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommend this Book. Review: I've been a GoLive user for several years and have read just about all the books out there on the subject. Teach Yourself Adobe GoLive 6 in 24 Hours provides solid information, puts first things first, and gives beginners and advanced users essential information in a well-thought out format. It's the manual to which I turn when I forget a trick!
Rating: Summary: Adobe GoLive 6 in 24 Hours Mini Review Review: I've been reading Sam's teach Yourself Adobe GoLive 6 in 24 hours on my long commute between Pennsylvania and New York City and am just about finished. My pattern is to read a chapter (the book calls them "hours") a day on the bus and upon reaching my desk, do a quick review and try anything I didn't already know about.I'm an experienced GoLiver, but although billed as a book for beginners and intermediate users, I find nuggets in every chapter, mostly alternative ways and shortcuts to do what I already knew. I especially benefited from the hour on tables. The GoLive features are presented in a clear manner without being the least bit condescending. Each chapter builds on the previous chapters. I like the general, non-AGL specific, web authoring advice such as being careful about using frames and the sizing of images. I did not mind that advanced features were not treated. The authors were upfront in that respect. It is better that we get the basics first anyway. I have recommended AGL in 24 to a co-worker and friend.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for beginners and intermediates! Review: This is an excellent book for getting up to speed quickly on GL 6. I would not call it for the advanced user, but it's excellent for beginners or intermediates with Golive. The tutorials are clear and concise, and the book is exactly what it advertises itself to be - it gets right to the point. I wish there was also a good advanced book on GoLive that covered using scripting such as Java and CSS and dynamic content in detail, unfortunately there are none yet that are any good. Maybe Sams can do that too? But for beginners or intermediates with GL 6 who want to start using the software today, this is the book to get!
Rating: Summary: So So Review: This was a So so book for the beginner and not as organized as Classroom in a book. I was a bit disappointed as a beginner.
