Rating: Summary: Great Reference! Review: This is an amazing and wonderful book. It is filled with many pictures, helpful descriptions, well explained definitions, and easy steps to follow. I highly recommend this book for a beginner to the experienced computer user.
Rating: Summary: The book I should have bought my Dad Review: This is the book I should have bought my Dad when he started to get into computers: it would have saved me a lot of time. The author covers a great deal ground with clear explanations and avoiding jargon at all costs. He even explains some of the weirder computer terminology in a humorous way that makes computing accessible to the new user.If you or someone you know is new to using a PC this book is well worth having propped up against the monitor for easy reference. If you've been using a computer for a while then it's probably too simple for you, although I call myself an expert and I didn't know that TWAIN stood for "Technology Without An Interesting Name".
Rating: Summary: Extremely Valuable Information Review: What an excellent book to read; "The Healthy PC". I am 32 years old and have just been getting into computers over the past 4 years. The past few years I have been reading a lot on how to do things inside my computer, upgrades, improve performance and such. And I have been lately interested in the security of my home computer. All of these topics of interest were included in this book. I know this book has helped me a lot! Especially when it comes to expensive upgrades. I didn't realize I could do all the things suggested to improve performance with out the expense. And there were things in this book that confirmed websites I have been to and improvements I have already done to my computer. To sum up how I felt about "The Healthy PC," I loved it. My fiancée and me were out for the day and I wanted to get a computer book to read. I saw "The Healthy PC" and bought it. This was at 2pm that day. By 6pm that night I had it completely read with note tabs in about 40 pages. Afterwards, I spent another 2 to 3 hours implementing the suggestions I had marked. To my surprise all this greatly improved the performance of my computer. I learned valuable tips that I could not have understood with other books. The language and humor in which it was written gave it its real touch of class. I am sure this is what made the book even more enjoyable to read. I look forward to more books by this author.

Rating: Summary: As clear as every computer book should be Review: When you work or deal with young people, talking about computers is a big challenge and most of the times you feel like a "dummie or an idiot". This forces you to run to Barnes & Noble or the local Library to end up more confused and frustrated not knowing which book to pick. "The Healthy PC" is not as tedious as other computer books, on the contrary once you start reading you will not stop, and if you follow the steps Carey recommends you'll feel very comfortable. This is a great book, to bad he does not have any publications about hardware, but I understand his next book will be about "networking" available next year, I can't wait to buy it.
