Rating: Summary: All you need! Review: This is a very good book to prepare you for the exam. This is the only text I used, and I am now a CISSP. I would recommend this over any of the other recommended texts.
Rating: Summary: CISSP Guide Rating Review: This book is an excellent source and covers the concepts clearly. I decided to take the exam and had barely 45 days to prepare - This book gave good insight in to all the domains. Additionally one needs to refer the net for more details on Cryptography, Security Architecture etc., I strongly recommend this book for aspiring candidates.
Rating: Summary: A solid collection of information, a worthwhile read Review: This book is not written like a "CISSP for Dummies" might be. The information is densely packed in some places, and technical details aren't always distilled to make them less abstract. That said, I found the material to be reasonably representative of what the exam looked like. Enough of the material was outside of my experience that I don't think I would have passed without studying up. Read the book, then return after a week or so and work through the sample questions. If you feel good about your ability there, you've got a good shot at the test.
Rating: Summary: Clear & precise book for CISSP candidate Review: As a candidate to attempt the CISSP examination, this book is a good starting point. Written by a clear, easily understandable style, candidates of CISSP may find it extremely useful. You should have this and read this first before further reading the ISMH (fourth edition) and SRV (theory & practice).
Rating: Summary: Oh, Did I tell you I passed my CISSP Exam? Review: Again I say this IS the book to buy first my friends. It helped me put it all together for that final review before my CISSP Exam. I wish The CISSP Prep Guide also been one of the first books I had bought. May your studies prove productive.
Rating: Summary: Good material, poorly presented Review: This book is apparently right on target in terms of content. However it is in serious need of a good editor. I estimate it is taking me twice as long to read and understand the text because of poor grammer and ambiguities. For example, on pages 5-6, under the heading "Information Classification Objectives":".. it is obvious that information classification has a higher, enterprise-level benefit. Information can have an impact on a business globally, not just on the business unit or operations levels. Its primary purpose is to enhance confidentiality, integrity, and availability..." Ok, after reading that a couple of times, it is clear that "Its primary purpose" refers back to "information classification" in the first sentence, not to "Information" in the immediately preceding sentence. But it certainly would be easier to read if you didn't have to decipher things like this on every page. Also, in the Introduction, page xiv, it says about the test, "No acronyms are used without being explained". Yet, in the sample questions at the end of chapeter 1, there are half a dozen or more questions that in essence are testing your knowledge of certain acronyms. So, do I need to memorize the acronyms or not? I'm grateful that a text is available designed to focus my preparation for the test. It is probably the best available, but it just needs more work.
Rating: Summary: Worst book I have ever read Review: Stay away from this book. It is the worst book that I have ever read. The authors use abstract terms to explain the abstract terms, making it extremely difficult for the readers to understand. If you already know the stuff, you probably don't need this book. If you don't, then reading it will not help at all! From an MSC and MCSE (Win2K track).
Rating: Summary: This is the one... Review: for the serious CISSP candidate to start with. I know the feeling of panic -- ten domains, so much to review, where do I begin? The CISSP Prep Guide provides that much needed focal point to make sense out of the mass of available CISSP study information. As someone who has worked in 9 of the 10 CISSP domains over the past 10 years, I was at my wits end after three months of hit-or-miss documentation reviews wondering if I was looking at the right info or completely lost in the CISSP domain forest. I was so pleased (elated actually!) to find that this book provided the "big picture" necessary to pull together and clarify the scope of the CISSP exam. The CISSP Prep Guide is easily the clearest and most accurate presentation of the subject available today in addition to its being an easy and interesting read - a truly rare commodity in technical writing.
Rating: Summary: strong review guide for a comprehensive exam Review: This is a strong review guide that correlates perhaps 90% with the contents of the comprehensive CISSP exam. As a hands-on professional with decades' worth of security experience and in-the-trenches development of secure OS, comm protocols, and RDBMS, I was frustrated at the manner in which the book glossed over some material and, indeed, made frank errors here and there. (This is why I withheld the fifth star from my rating.) However, considering its purpose--which is to provide balanced coverage of the numerous exam areas--it does a very good job. Of course, the book isn't all you need, and I disagree for two reasons with the assertion in the book's preface that a professional with three years' experience could pass the CISSP exam. First, the material is far too broad. Second, the exam demands that the candidate have a strong handle on the business motivations behind various security-related policies, practices, and methodologies that you just can't glean in only a few years of professional practice.
Rating: Summary: This is the best book going .. Review: I wish I had this reference when I was studying for the CISSP - it is without question, the best reference going. As important as its quality of covereage of the 10 domains, it also incorporates contemporary technologies and thought with the traditional "old school" information that is found in the other references available. I've been teaching the CISSP material for some time now and will make this our new text. This is a GREAT book - must have.
