Summary: Not a fan
Review: Although the wow books are nicely put together, i find a lot of the material very web and special effects orientated, theres a lot of how to make dodgy web buttons and create various mediocre effects.

Summary: Scrappy
Review: As a beginner at Photoshop this is not the book to get. Sure there is tons of imformation but it the biggest unexplained jumbled mess that I have come across in a reference book. I have had the book for six months now and end up every time confused and frustrated by unclear instructions. Definately not for beginners

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: With plenty of hands-on application tips and instructions
Review: Beginners through advanced users will find Photoshop 6 WOW Book an excellent collection of details and tools about the latest Photoshop program, providing plenty of hands-on application tips and instructions for restoring photos, combining images and blending art, and more. An accompanying CD-ROM provides tutorial back-up, layer styles, and custom presets. Highly recommended.

Summary: Not for the beginners
Review: Brilliant book for people that want to read every line of text and then "try" to recreate the sample given in the book. However I would not recommend this book for people that like to be guided step by step. I myself would have liked to be guided step by step with visual pictures...

From the basics of using Photoshop 6 to instructions for retouching photographs to painting and using advanced features, The Photoshop 6 Wow Book is a comprehensive, "user friendly" manual filled with dazzling illustrations of what Photoshop 6 can accomplish when guided by an informed and skillful hand. Highly recommended for the Photoshop 6 novice, The Photoshop 6 Wow Book is enhanced with an accompanying CD for Windows or the Macintosh which contains over 200 tutorial files, 300 Preset Layer Styles, and dozens of custom presets.

Summary: Great for fun
Review: Ever read those "how to" books and get bored? This isn't one of them. A photoshop book should be in COLOR and this one is. It's very easy to follow (I'm not and expert). It's not in any order so if you feel like learning about cropping an image just flip to the page. Great reference for personal web site people.

Summary: Simply the best for beginners, reference or advanced effects
Review: For learning and mastering an impressive package like Photoshop 6 I usually say that you need 3 kinds of materials: 1. A beginners guide to show you the framework and teach you how the basics work; 2. A detailed reference volume for when you need to research the solution to a problem on your own; 3. A selection of impressive advanced effects to give you inspiration and solutions to common advanced problems. If you have access to these 3, all you need is sweat and time. Few books have it all, since many of these functions seems to contradict with each other. Another common flaw is that many books show you very impressive effects, and how to carry them out, but after doing so, when the initial "Wow! Look what I just made!" fades away, you have learned almost nothing and understand very little about how the effect was made.

Based on these criteria, I have to conclude that The Photoshop 6 Wow! Book has it all. This is definitely not my first book on Photoshop 6, but I wish it was. It would have saved me quite a few bucks, and taught me more in the same time.

My personal interest is creating illustrations, not so much applying effects to photos or making web graphics. But still the Wow! Book covers it all to a very satisfying degree, in fact with so much depth and detail, that this book doubles as my reference volume. Also it patiently takes its time to make sure beginners understand all the key concepts in Photoshop.

I am impressed. Very impressed. My verdict will have to be the old cliché about, "this is the only book you'll need". But it can easily be the only book you'll need for a loooooong time.

Feel free to mail me if you have questions.

Along the left side of each page are cliff/cole 's notes that containa breif summery of the page with pictures! There are many tutorials, filter/preset informating and lots of gallerys for inspiration. I am totally BLOWEN away with this book. In just a few days i know more than weeks searching on the internet for ps tutorials!

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK
Review: I bought this book based on the reviews I read and I have to admit its not what I expected. Isn't there a book out there for non-commercial photographers? Does every photoshop user have clients and need to make a buck? Where is the voice of the true art photographers. This book is full of glitz and tricks for making photos that look like they belong in magazine ads and as posters on a teen-ager's wall. If that's the type of art you are looking for then this is the book for you.
