Summary: It's okay but some mistakes are there
Review: The book is good but the first example i wanted to try out... i decided to download it from their site and when i tried to run the code it wont work. I had to change couple of lines and other things to make it work. It would be nice if they fix that code, at least on the site. I am using PHP 3.x.x on Apache. Otherwise its good, worth to buy.

Summary: Comprehensive
Review: I was looking for a PHP book that could develop a thread between unconnected and extremely vast bits of information from the manual. This book has helped me update my PHP skills apart from helping me visualize practical applications. Should be on every serious PHP developer's book shelf.

Summary: Unless you are an expert, buy this book!
Review: I've read the other reviews of this book. The negative reviews seem to come from people who are *very* experienced with PHP. I, personally, would say that this book is excellent for just about anyone who uses PHP. My thoughts are that if you spend only a few dollars on a book like this and benefit even slightly by buying it, then it was worth it. I bought this book and have found it useful many times so far. This book is *not* just a reprint of the on-line manual, like other books are.

At the moment this is definitely *the Best* PHP book out there.

Summary: A great PHP all rounder
Review: I have been developing with PHP for ages but I found this book is a great PHP book and has something for everyone. If you are a new to PHP then this book will guide you through from the start. If you are a old hand at PHP then this book offers chapters on such things as XML and LDAP etc. The books comes complete with loads of source code and examples for things such as building an ecommerce example plus other examples and case studies. I recommend this book to all !

Summary: one stop reference
Review: I have been trying to develop a web-based tool to consolidate directory and mail services for our Intranet and this book has proved to be a boon. It has comprehensive coverage of PHP as a language and the chapters on LDAP and IMAP have been exhaustive and the example applications have been very useful. I have been seriously using PHP or attempting to for some time and I think this is by far the best book in the market on the subject.

Summary: Don't waste your money
Review: I am a profrssional internet programmer, I've used PHP to design websites for 4 years. However after reading this book, I found that there is nothing new I can learn from this book, you better to save your money for other unpublished PHP books.

Summary: Best PHP book I have found
Review: This book was just what I was looking for to launch a new dynamic website I am building. Clear concise writing and good examples make this book an invaluable reference.

Summary: A lot missing
Review: As I started reading this book I was very excited. The style, examples, and detail are all great. It also covers many things that seem to be lacking in the on-line resources. But as I got further into it I found a frightening number of things missing. Time and date functions aren't even mentioned! Oracle functions - not mentioned. Zend gets one paragraph! Many of the omitions wouldn't be used by the average user, but at 900 pages I figured it would cover more. In other words you'll still need the on-line docs. That said, I would still recommend the book.

Summary: A very good book on PHP
Review: I'm new in php but I had a lot of programming experience. This is a very good book on php. The explanations are very clear, the examples are very good.

Summary: Ahhhh, yes!
Review: This has been THE PHP book I've been waiting for. Well written, great analogies, loads of examples. If you want to learn PHP this is the book, esp. for those with a passing understanding of Perl, or shell scripting, or C, C++, etc. I can't praise this book enough.
