Summary: Palm Organizers
Review: I picked up this book to help me decide which Palm to buy for a Mother's Day gift. The first chapter provided great info on each system's features and benefits. The rest of the book proved to be a valuable resource for add-on programs that greatly enhanced the usefulness of my Palm, and it clearly went over the basics of the built in applications. Well done and concise!

Summary: Great training resource for Palm OS devices
Review: I work in the training field for Palm OS devices - training call center agents for technical and customer support. This book is the best hands-on tool you can buy for Palm OS devices to give to students. It has a great format: 50% visual and 50% text. It differentiates the Palm OS variants from 3.1 to 3.5 very clearly and it presents lots of numbered step-by-step instructions which can be used to describe procedures to clients on the phone. The O'Reilly series books are really good too but do not cover all the newer devices and OS variants. The Osborne published, How to do everything with your Palm handheld, covers more recent devices such as the Visor too. It is a great read but misses a few items like File Linking and is much less step-by-step in style. My company has bought lots of copies and it's pretty cheap on Amazon compared to all the other books. Only downside is the lack of a cover CD with lots of shareware but for this price...

Summary: Palms are easy to use, but here's why you need this book.
Review: It's true that Palm handhelds are simple and powerful, but there's much more than just the devices' built-in functionality. Palm Organizers VQS covers the main applications (Date Book, Address Book, To Do List, Memo Pad, Mail, Expense), but also goes into detail about how BEST to use them. I also devote chapters to accessing email and the Web; organizing your time, data, and money; synchronizing with your computer and over the Web; and of course much more, with plenty of tips and tricks to making the most of your handheld. This book also covers the most recent devices, including the Palm IIIc, Palm V, the wireless Palm VII, and Handspring's Visor. Palm Organizers VQS is a heavyweight guide to Palm OS-based handhelds in a light-weight (322 pages, considerably thinner than most other books) package.

Summary: New 4th Edition Now Available
Review: Jeff Carlson here. I want to point out that a new 4th edition of the book is now out, but Amazon's search engine doesn't always bring it up (this was a problem with the 3rd edition, too). Look for ISBN #0321287665.

Summary: Up-to-date complete reference
Review: This is a complete reference for PalmOS PDAs. The form is a step-by-step walkthrough of each function. Each page is cut in half with text on one side explaining the screenshots on the other side of the page. The chapters go through each function from managing contacts, using the calendar, reading and writing email, to surfing the web and synchronizing with your Mac or Windows box. This is very thorough and up-to-date book for Palm users who like the step-by-step approach that is thick with screenshots.

Summary: Palm Organizers Visual QuickStart Guide
Review: This is an excellent book that will transform the reader from novice to near-power user. The author details the product offerings, basic features, more advanced features, and third party offerings that increase the value of the Palm. With this book as a primer, I knew exactly what I was doing when I first picked up a Palm.

I scanned the Palm For Dummies book before settling on this book. In my opinion, the Dummies book was comparatively confusing and overly brief.
