Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Truly what the title says Review: There are very few technical books that I've actually found worth reading from cover to cover (or been able to without falling into a coma!) this is one of them. The author gives thorough and concise descriptions of all facets of the STL. The examples he gives are excellent in my opinion. He doesn't try to put them into the framework of a mock application as some do, but rather frees himself to give you a working example that best illustrates the power of a particular STL component. This is the 3rd STL book I've bought. The other two are in the closet, this one's on my desk. Great job. I hope the rest of the "From the ground up" series measures up to this publication.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Good for beginners. Review: This book is good for beginners. But unlike what the cover says it does not make you the master in STL. Still a good start.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent book with quality content and is easy to read. Review: This book is very easy to read and understand. Herb presents its content in a useful, directed and thoughtful approach that is representative of his ability to communicate clearly and concisely even difficult concepts.I use this book primarily as a reference because I'm always questioning something important about the STL that is a lot harded to dig through with other books. If you buy only one book on the STL, be sure that this is it. I've got nearly every other book on the topic, and feel that this one is best for thumbing or reading for C++ developers at all skill levels.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Thorough, insightful, and, well, just plain great! Review: This book really explains the STL in a clear and understandable way. It starts with the basics and by the end, teaches some of the most advanced STL features, including building your own function objects. Schildt is number One with me.
