Review: I checked 3 different VB references looking for answers to the errror messages I was getting in my code and only this book had what I needed. It provided good explanations and nice tables.

Summary: Wrong title for this book
Review: I just bought this book and wanted to look at the listbox events and properties. The whole control does not have an entry in the index. The backcover says it covers all controls. It's not true. I am returning the book to the bookstore. I am not getting a full refund but this book is not worth much.

Review: If there was ever a case of false advertiseing this is it! The back cover of this book says "Every Visual Basic property, method, event, and keyword is covered in detail." That my friends is a damn lie! The last time I checked "ListCount" was a Visual Basic property, is it covered in this book? NO!!! What about "DoEvents"? Surely this "SuperBible" would at least MENTION IT - WRONG IT DOES'NT!!! I could go on and on with dozens of keywords, properties, events, and methods that this book makes no mention of at all.I have never been burned this badly before! I should have paid more attention to the review below! I can gaurantee you that if you buy this book you will be sorry! Thanks for nothing Waite!!!

Summary: People, this is a REFERENCE book, not a HOW TO book
Review: If you're thinking this book is going to teach you HOW to write VB programs, it won't. If you already know VB and want a nice, reasonably complete book on everything from standard VB methods to ADO and database access, this is a GREAT reference book. I keep it at my side during all my projects. The on-line help for VB is not always the greatest and this is a good second source for help. There is a big difference between a book that is going to teach you how to write VB code, and a book that you can reference for the proper VB syntax for controls. It does a great job at the latter.

Review: I`m about to learn VB in a class and we`re learning by practising given examples, control by control. The hope that my new bought book will provide me with helpfull hints and tricks was a big disappointment. Instead of a logical and structured approach with a usefull Index, the reader is confused by various articles from different authors, which irritates you much more than they helps. It reminded me to these "computer books" like: "The 1000 hottest tricks for Windows" by Bill Gates, for just 55$!! -> including the most useless stuff ever mentioned about computers!! Summary: Not for Beginners.
Review: The book is not for beginners. Although it gives you a lot of info on how to use those commands, syntax and grammars, it doesn't really give you a good solid foundation. A beginner will surely throw out the book, simply because he will be blur reading about properties and syntax. The demo project at the end of some of the chapters may help..erm..perhaps for those who have done VB before. ADO programming is not much there. If you're looking for database programming with ADO, look somewhere else. Other than that, since most of the content of the book is used up to talk about properties, methods and events, the examples with pictures(user interface design) is NOT enough.

Summary: this is a great book
Review: The style of this book could be intimidating to newcomers at first, but if you give it a chance you'll see that it's is a GREAT BOOK nonetheless. I've looked at numerous tutorials and none struck me as having the real-world depth I was looking for. They take you only so far, expose you to only a small subset of VB's fucntions and objects, and give little in the way of real world examples. At the other end of the spectrum are the "expert" books that are impenetrable to people without previous expertise. This book is different - it does not hold your hand or belabor basic programming topics that are common to ALL languages, like conditional expressions, variables, looping, etc. But it gives so many code examples and projects that you really learn by following along and seeing things in real world context. The authors have focused on what makes VB unique as a language - and that's the builtin functions, controls, objects, etc. This book gives the most consise usage summary I've seen; each fucntion is well explained and has actual code examples. At the end of the chapters are projects that utilize the fucntionality of the chapter, are very easy to follow, and have the look and feel of "real" applications. If you're trying to learn VB to actually implement a project you have in mind, this book will give you all the important pieces you need.

Summary: Look Elsewhere
Review: This book is a huge waste of money and your time. Tried working examples in Chap. 32 to get better understanding of concepts. Unfortunately examples are incomplete and mistake laden. Looked on CD for sample code. No luck here Chap 32 examples not included. Much better books on market both for learning and reference...this book does a poor job in bothj areas
