Rating: Summary: Next to useless Review: This book was terrible. Don't waste your time with it. It's problems:> Too hit-and-miss for beginners. Topics are not covered thoroughly. > Too basic for intermediate users. It fills lots of space with unhelpful info. > Shoddy work in general. Lots of typ-o's, anachronisms, and spelling errors. If you're trying to learn Transact-SQL, get a different book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent refrence for any one new to SQL server. Review: This is an excellent beginner level book for anyone new to SQL Server or anyone who has a need to learn Transact SQL. The examples where very helpful and easy to understand.
Rating: Summary: Printed version of the Books Online Review: This looks and reads like a printed version of the Books Online that ship with SQL Server. I'm not impressed. The only thing you'll learn in 21 days from this book is woefully inept the authors are. Better to spend your money elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Keep it as a desktop reference Review: This text assumes that you are intelligent but do not yet know T-SQL. Based on that assumption, it explains at the lowest level, and progresses rapidly. Once you have gone through the learning curve with the book, you will find that it is handy to have at your desk. Put it this way - Three times I loaned my copy to other programmers, and all of them ended up buying their own copy!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: Unlike other MS-SQLServer books that mix DB Adminstrative chores with client application programming, this is a very unique book that focuses specifically on Transact-SQL that every DB application programmer working with MS-SQLServer should know. Armed with this effective book, my colleaque was able to bring herself up to speed within a mere 5-day 3-hr-7-chapter-per-day coaching and tutorial sessions. The material and presentation style of this book is simply superb!
Rating: Summary: A Beginners Guide and a Programmers Reference Review: You will use this book throughout your entire career as a SQL programmer. Each new section builds on the previous lessons. If you read each chapter and complete every exercise you will have a clear understanding of the Transact SQL language. I used this book as the first step toward my SQL Server certification and I recommend that you do the same.
