Rating: Summary: Is Designing the Facts and Dimensions all? Review: True, Ralph Kimball seems to have a lot of experience and his examples and the Star Tracker SW are very good. But what I missed is how all the nice schemes will be implemented (especially the time dimension). -> If you're just in the stage of doing the star scheme design then read this book. To have an overview of what the stages of the project are and what technicalities have to be thought of I'd recommend 'data warehousing in the real world' by annahory / murray.
Rating: Summary: Ralph Kimball is the DW King Review: When I started looking into the science of data warehousing a few years ago, everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, told me to find this book and read it. And they were right, because Ralph Kimball is not only one of the top experts in the DW tech world, but he also one of the best teachers of the practice. This book will take you from the history of the system to case studies and great examples for you to follow in your learning and application processes. I read only half of this book in time for a company-sponsored training class, and I knew EVERYTHING the class was teaching on the subject of data warehousing. The book was quite a great buy for me. It's too bad the company wasted the money on the class...
Rating: Summary: Very good introduction to data-warehouse modeling Review: you will get a very good introduction to data-warehouse modeling, you will need some basic SQL-knowledge and a little bit patience during reading (the book could be a little bit shorter)
