Rating: Summary: Boring but adequate Review: A middling book at best. No real insights but a good start at the concept. Unfortunately they are very boring writers but they do give a lot of examples.

Rating: Summary: Kick start your Data Warehouse Review: At last - a description of the Oracle 8i data warehouse toolkit. It's a well-presented practical recipe book for using the new facilities such as materialised views and the full power of Enterprise Manager with the Data Mart Suite. Whilst focusing primarily on Oracle proprietary products, the authors are careful to point out that certain aspects were still under development at the time of writing. Indeed things are moving so fast in this whole area that there are sure to be some gaps. Now that we have the further development of the "intelligent web house" I expect there will be a sequel to this volume. Meanwhile those starting a new project with Oracle will find this a great guide to launching a successful warehouse and avoiding some of the pitfalls encountered by the earlier pioneering developers. I'm pleased that I invested in it.

Rating: Summary: Not for the brain dead Review: Frankly this is a nice book for beginers as well as a ref. source for experienced data warehouse experts. The book very briefly, avoiding all the boaring and unnecessary details, explains the process for building a data warehouse. But there is something very interesting about this book.... There is no way you can reach the authors of this book if you want some explanation on something written in this book. There is no email address or any other contact detail mentioned anywhere in the book. Also, any attempt to write to the publishers to get some help are totallly futile..they just don't seem to care. This leaves the reader with a far-from-satisfied feeling after reading this book. Nevertheless, I believe the authors have no role to play in in this book providing a not-so-adequate experience. ---- One disappointed reader nmcv@hotmail.com

Rating: Summary: Good review of new features Review: I found the book to be a good introduction to some of the new features of Oracle 8i. The code examples were particularly interesting (but of more interest to DBAs than developers, and DBAs would probably prefer a more comprehensive book). The book was useful and worth my investment.

Rating: Summary: Adequate at best . . . . Review: I was disappointed that the authors did nothing but gloss over the new data warehouse feature of Oracle 8i . Considering who the authors are (both high level Oracle employees) I was hoping for more in depth analysis. This book cover just the basic of what Oracle 8i can really do. Little to no examples make this book more of a theory book than on with practical advice. I would recommend getting a copy of Oracle 8i Data Warehousing Guide. It a pdf file that you need to get from an Oracle Employee. Its harder to get but well worth the effort ! ! ! !
Rating: Summary: Not for the brain dead Review: This is an excellent book, detailing what can be accomplished. It is definitely not for those who have no understanding of databases. An excellent tool.
