Summary: Finally - a VB Classic
Review: I have read several (10's) VB books over the years. I found this one on Amazon and purchased it because of the rave reviews. I can see that the 100+ (wow) people that actually took the time to review the book actually were right. First, Im completely amazed that so many people would actually review a *technical* book. But now I see why. This book is the best programming (not only VB) book Ive ever read. It covers the technical parts of database, but threads through user interfaces and expertise that could only be garnered from years of experience and study. This is a classic. Mr. Connell, please write another book soon.

Review: I have read a ton of technical "how to" books. This guide is one of the best! Very logical sequence, great hands on learning tool, a must for every VB starter. I am teaching a beginning VB and DB class and I am going to make every effor to switch to this text. Very Well done!

Review: I found this book boring. The only reason I bought this book because it was needed for a college class. In my opinion, it just touches the bare necessities of database access. If you're a beginner this book could be perfect, otherwise, I would suggest something else

Review: I been learning on my own to program, and have never had any luck until I purchased this book. The second I read the other reviews, and finally got into the book myself, I just couldn't put it down. John does a good job at making things easy enough for people to understand, yet give you the tools to be a powerful programmer. This book is especially good for people who are new to programming, or wish to expand their knowledge of programming.

Review: I'm not sure if this review will be posted, but this is the second time I've made a good review for this book. I am very very thankful that Mr.Connell shared his knowledge to new VB programmers like me and after searching for answers on multiple table questions, I've finally found what I'm looking for in this book. Thank you very much John, I can't think of a better way to say that this book helped me a lot. Now I'm much more confident to tackle some advanced issues on VB databases and I hope that you'll publish an advance book for VB. Thank you John for this wonderfully laid-out book.

Review: After reading the 1st chapter, I gave John 5 stars. After reading 200 pages, I have to call him "King of The Jungle!" . This book is a MUST-READ if you are new to database programming using VB. If you are more interested in DAO, read "Microsoft Jet Database Engine - Programmer's Guide" published by Microsoft Press.

Summary: A great VB Database book...
Review: Before reading this book I had no idea as to how to use Visual Basic to access a database. After reading this book I have already written a few database apps, such as a personal address book and a few practice DB apps for school. This book assumes nothing and goes along at a very easy pace. Everything is fully detailed as to WHY the author is doing what he is doing not just the HOW. A few weeks after reading this book, we started doing Databases in VB in school. I already had a jump on the subject matter because of this book and had no problem understanding the class work and lab assignments. If you're familiar with VB but not with using it to design a DB interface this book is for you. Definitely worth a buy!

Summary: Excellent book that demands your full attention.
Review: As far as i'm concerned this book goes indepth on DAO and ADO. What I mean is that I believe it's not only for the beginning database programmer. For a not so beginner and yet not so intermediate programmer like myself I needed to re-read alot of the material. But man was I so appreciative when the author's point came across. Mr. Connell gives you all you'll ever need to know about DAO and a thorough run down on ADO technology. You'll understand the value of a Data Class Module as well as it's big brother the ADO dbCTL that you build in this book. Buy this book and plan to spend much time on studying and re-reading the material if your a beginner, yet also know that once you do become more familiar with the material you'll be surprised as to it's total value to any Database programmer.
