Summary: Great series for new programmers!
Review: This line of books from WROX is very well written and even includes a helpful "progress flowchart."

This was exactly what I was hoping to see and purchase in a new programmer's book. I have been asked by my employer to take on some new responsibilities and they will include VBA, VB6 programming in ACCESS97, and within the language of VB6 itself.

I'm feeling a lot better about my progress now with the addition of this line of books to our computer library.

I would like to point out for other buyers that this book concentrates on VB6 as it relates more to ACCESS97. Not the singular database design language of VB6. Look for the "Beginning Visual Basic 6" title from WROX for a more detailed reference concerning VB6 or "Learning Visual Basic 6" from another publisher...can't remember their name of hand...Only improvement on the main title commented on above would be the addition of a CD-ROM for further support and TOYS!

I LIKE add-ons, plug-ins, useful shareware and freeware...code samples...I want it all!

Summary: The best computer book I had read ever!!!
Review: I am very new to visual basic in any aspect. I firstly thought that I might have a hard time understand this book since it is not usual VB book but it is specially for database, but I was wrong!. I really love his style of writing that make me awake and have fun at the same time. I have complete the book without missing a chapter. Thanks to John Connell

Summary: Simply the best Visual Basic Database book I have ever read!
Review: I have never heard of John Connell until I saw his book on Amazon, and I must say that this man has probably written the most understanding programming book ever! It is like he took every suggestion from every new user to VB and implemented them into his book. From the first time I picked up the book and opened it up, I saw some examples of code that I have wanting learn forever. I'm not even 100 pages into the book, and I already know it is going to be the greatest!

Summary: Must Have If You Wish To Go For Database Programming In VB
Review: This is one of the great books on database programming in VB. Every step in programming is described in "How it works" which is a great help for beginners. You also get exposure with a program development 'address book programming'. Overall I liked this book and strongly suggest to anyone who is wishing to get into VB database, because this is the first step. But check wrox website as there are some errors in codes published.

Summary: Finally a programming book that is readable!
Review: I have struggled with two other database programming books before purchasing this one. I absorbed and retained more in the first four chapters than I did from the other two books combined. John Connell, please write more. . . How about an advanced database programming book?

Summary: Worth every penny!!
Review: THIS book should be the standard used for authoring computer books. It truly is pleasing to read and use. After reading it, I felt as if it written by a human, while other similar books were crancked out by machines. It would be nice if Mr. Connell would follow it up with a book along the lines of VB Client/server. I am still looking for the book that will similarily explain beginning SQL Server to a novice like me. It anyone knows, please drop me a line.

Summary: Perfect for the 1998-2000 transition in techniques
Review: One of the problems in this field is that we are in transition from DAO to ADO. Finally there is one book that gives us the dope to both maintain the old DAO code (of which there are a zillion lines) and to write the new code (of which there will be a zillion lines). Since I cover both techniques in my courses, this allows students to get texts for both halves of the course for the price of one. BTW, you'll find most of what you need to work with databases in chapts 1-6 and 8-10. Don't get too slogged down in chapt 7 before reading 8-10.

Summary: Best computer book ever written!!!
Review: This is the first computer book that I truly understand, and I have brought hundred of them. I expecially like the section called 'Try It Out'. Your book explains everything in ways that anyone can understand--including us none computer experts.
