Review: You can almost never go wrong with Wrox Press. This is another excellent Visual Basic book. It gives the beginner to database programming in VB a solid foundation in DAO, the new technology ADO, and ASP. All aspects are covered clearly with the help of lots of sample code which eveyone loves. I liked it so much I decided to review it on my Visual Basic Books web site. A great buy!

Summary: John Connell ........... A great teacher
Review: You cant't fault John Connell's teaching style...... He has the perfect tone for a "beginner" type teacher. This really is an excellent book for learning the Database interraction side of Visual Basic. Precise explanations, Examples that work, details details details ........... The terminology is explained in words that don't leave you shaking your head. 2 - 3 chapters into this book, your confidence starts to build to the point where you don't need to keep referencing the book to set up the test applications, you have the knowledge. Great book, great resource........ A++ rating from me. Well done John Connell.

Review: I was totally expecting to be disappointed with this book. Boy was I wrong! I'm a professional coder, and without doubt, this is one of the best starter books you'll find. The best aspect of this book is the fact that after he has you do a projetc, he explains EVERYTHING. Line by line. Concept by concept. It's been immensly useful.

Summary: EXCELLENT! A MUST HAVE book for VB6 & Databases!
Review: This book is the BEST on beginning Database programming with Visual Basic 6...and believe me, I've read them ALL! The book carries you thru creating an application with DAO, then ports it to ADO, and I really liked making the "bullet-proof user interface"...Connell did this book so well, I would have liked to see an additional section with sample code for various other functions not related to the application created. This is an excellent book however, and well worth the purchase price!

Review: This book was a tremendous help. I was thrown into a project at work writing database front ends for both SQL 6.5 and Oracle. With no previous VB experience, this book (and an introduction to VB 5 course) I was able to come up to speed quickly. I have also been able to write a few programs at home using MS Access as my back end.

Summary: Just discovered this treasure
Review: I can sum up my comments in a single word - WOW. This book is great! Its the best VB book Ive ever read. Not only does it cover databases, but the philisophical thread of how to make a bullet proof user interface is woven through the chapters in such a cohesive way that you don't even know that Connell is teaching several things on several different levels until you finish the book. No wonder this is getting such high marks. Ive never commented on a book before, but felt that I had to let the world know how good this particular book/author is. Great Job.

Summary: Visual Basic Authors... Learn From Example!
Review: If every programming book I've ever purchased even came close to explaining concepts as well as Connell's, I'd be a very rich man. Unfortunately, this has not been the case. This is also the first book that's been hard to put down. I've purchased 5 or 6 Visual Basic database books, and not one of them has come close to explaining concepts as well as this one has. I will continue to follow Mr. Connell's publishings, as he's one hell of a great teacher! Thanks, Mr. Connell!

Summary: Real World - Immediately Helpful Information
Review: I think another reviewer/reader said something similiar, but we are putting in a SQL - 7 server and an intranet. Connell has examples of how to use VB6 with ASP's and then hit the database with a .DLL instantiated from the asp. We are basing our entire work project on Connell's book examples. This is great!

Review: I am very satisfied with this book. It is very clear in every aspect. ADO is also explained since the first chapters and alse the differences with DAO. It is the first book I buy from Wrox and I was very surprised with the concise,clear and high quality of all the chapters. I recommend this book for all VB6 programmer that enter in the Database world!!!
