Rating: Summary: Good as introductions go Review: The material seems a bit dated, but the basics are there. It was helpful in that I was looking to refresh some of the concepts. However, the ~n that appear in numerous places really started to drive me nuts. You would have thought that something so obvious as a "~n" would have been easily caught by an editor! They start to appear on page 26.
And why does Wrox insist on putting the authors pictures on their books? Developers are not photogenic!
Rating: Summary: GOOD EXAMPLES Review: This book has too many pages full of screen shots. Aside from that however, and some funky humor, the book is great for entry-level VB COM developers. The material is easy to follow, the examples are great, and you'll learn from this book!
Rating: Summary: This is the ONE Review: This book is easy to follow and covers pretty much every single bit of COM development. I got two other COM/VB books and found this one much better than others. Although I am an experienced COM developer, I picked up lots of important points from this book.Well written book!
Rating: Summary: A must read for the aspiring VB programmer Review: This book is excellent. I hope the author continues to write in the same style. It was very informative and had just enough information on the side topics to be informative without rambling on. Very well written book. I am a student at a computer training school and our branch ordered several copies of this book after the mentor read it on my recommendation. He was as impressed as I was.

Rating: Summary: Nice, but not many solid examples... Review: This book is nice in the sense that it is very written in a very informal style and it did generate some interest for COM in me... but, the examples used are very superficial and do not fully illustrate the author's point at times. I guess Thomas/wrox wants us to wait and buy the next release of the book... It's a decent book overall, but lacks solid examples. Partha.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book on COM for VB Programmers Review: This book is very useful in getting a hold on COM and it provides good exmaples to try and write some code. I especially liked the discussions on interface in Chapter 2-COM Architecture. I strongly recommend this book for VB Programmers.
Rating: Summary: Very good for someones 1st experience in COM Review: This book lays a very good foundation for your understanding of COM. If you understand VB, you will be able to understand this book. Great book to have when you are writing COM/DCOM object.
Rating: Summary: Good introduction to the COM world Review: This book served as a readable technical discussion of what takes place "behind the scenes" in the Component Object Model. I has some problems running the DCOM example. The chapter on Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS)would be confusing to someone who has never seen it before, but the simple MTS project shows you how easy it is to use transaction server to store and manage COM components in the business tier. Overall, this book provides a sound first step toward understanding COM architecture and how it interacts with Visual Basic applications.
Rating: Summary: Good Introduction to COM Review: This first book in VB COM series will be a excellent resource to people trying to get familar with COM. However, it is hard to follow the chapter on MTS and COM+.
