Rating: Summary: Looking for an excellent intro to COM in VB6? Here it is Review: I found this book to be an excellent source to learn from. All examples are a breaze. The author takes the time to explain ALL topics related to a particular chapter (not just the bare essentials to get you by). If you want to learn basics of COM and DCOM, I suggest you try this book. This book may have a few grammar mistakes, but don't get discouraged, it is not worth getting stressed over.
Rating: Summary: Badly written Review: I have no idea how well this book covers the subject. It is so badly written that I could not get through the first chapter. One would have to assume that the Wrox editors never even glanced at the manuscript. It does not deserve one star.
Rating: Summary: Great book on explaining COM. Review: I have read the book, and it does a great job explaining the complex COM mechanisms that are going on under the surface of VB. I recommend a buy on this one, The writer has done a great work!
Rating: Summary: Gets the VB developer up to speed in COM in a week !!! Review: I stay away from books with the pharse "learn XXXX in XX days" in the title as if they are the plague. And I have always been a little leary of books with the word "Introduction" in the title. I read this book on the recommendation of a friend, and former collegue, to determine if it was an appropriate publication to get about 6 of our begining VB programers, ex fox pro guys, up to speed on COM. This book not only met my criteria for this application but I found myself continually shaking my head in agreement with the author while I read the book. His methodologies are VERY sound and his approach to teaching COM is EXTREMELY easy to follow. Also, the author's writing style is very easy to read. This is NOT a 2 asprin per chapter book and I read it in about 4 days. This book is a PRICELESS tool to get begining and seasoned VB programmers up to speed in COM. I promise you that you will be able to converse intelligently about COM in a week. Mr.Lewis... I owe you a cold one! Steve PS. My only minor qualm with the book would be the step by step screen shots. However, for the intended audience of this book, I can see how they would be helpful.

Rating: Summary: Read it if you really want to understand Visual Basic COM Review: I think this book is one of the best books on VB COM. It truly enhances your understanding of COM in VB. This book covers the concept behind COM technology and it walks you through the code to show you how it's done. I really enjoyed this book and time after time I went back to it to review some of the samples and concepts. Really worth the time.
Rating: Summary: Provides you with the fundamental's Review: I was fairly happy with the knowledge I had attained when I completed this book. I think Thomas Lewis has put together an excellent book, which I would happily recommend. Personally, I would of liked to seen a chapter on ADO and connecting a COM to a data source. I guess the publishers want you buy further books from their range and that why it's not there.
Rating: Summary: Read this book andyou can build com objects in no time! Review: I was long searching for a book on COM from a VB programmers perspective, first reading 'Beginning visual basic objects' and putting it aside for a while i decided to purchase this book and was not disapointed, sometimes this book is a bit dry and at times the examples are quite abstract it nevertheless delivers! I built a COM object for an IIS Server to handle CDO/SMTP in 10 minutes!
Rating: Summary: Excellent - VB Programmers need this book Review: I WASSSS new to COM/DCOM/MTS. This book has given me great insight on the inner and outter workings of COM. Thomas gets to the point and gives plenty of examples to help along the way. This book is a must for VB programmers to get as solid foundation on COM/MTS. I was glued to the pages and the computer. All the examples worked (which is sometimes rare) and the knowledge that I have gained from this book filled up my mind with REUSABLE knowledge. GET THE BOOK AND LEARN!
Rating: Summary: VB COM Has Plenty of Errors Review: I would have to say that I am very disappointed at the qualityof VB COM. Having only read 3 chapters so far (ch.1, 2 and 4), I havefound numerous errors, some as small as misspellings to incomplete sentences and errors in steps. I don't know how many technical reviewers worked on this book but they must of been asleep when they read it. I would like to also say that chapter 2 was quite confusing! I have read it twice now and feel somewhat comfortable about the content. Please... please, be easy on the new concepts and terminologies! To sum it up, stay away from this book!! Find something else that's better.
