Summary: A great book!
Review: I echo the comments of the previous two reviewers. Started using the book the moment it came out of the box and have found NT capabilities I've wanted to turn on (or off) for years. Kathy Ivens writes with great clarity

Summary: Outstanding, I finally found what I was looking for.
Review: I own just about every book ever written about the Windows 95 and Windows NT registry. All of them do a good job of explaining what the registry is and how to access it using the various REGEDIT utilities. But none of them really provided any kind of comprehensive reference to entries in the registry. This one does.

I gave it a "9" because it doesn't go far enough as a reference, but it's the best reference I've seen so far. If you want to customize and/or optimize Windows 95 or Windows NT, this is the book to get.

Summary: Lite for what it's titled
Review: I was looking for a book that would provide me with a definitive list of options to control a workstation, e.g., set dependencies between services, how to remove objects from the control panel, enhance security for the workstation. This book was more of an outline of the registry with a spattering of hints toward optimization. The author did present a good comparison between the platforms on the topics that were covered. This is not what I would expect in a book titled "Optimizing...".

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A very good source for registry structure and design
Review: This book explains the organization and content of the registry. Information regarding "do's and dont's" concerning editing is included. It offers helpful information regarding the relationships between control panel and the registry entries. The presentation of system policy editing is very clear and easy to follow. The differences between the WIN95, WIN98 and NT4.0 registrys are clearly defined. A cross reference or expanded index would increase the value of this book for troubleshooting and diagnosis.
