Rating: Summary: Calculating profits in cents/share Review: This is the only book in stock trading that defines profit and loss in terms of cents/share. This new unit is a very powerful measure that allows comparisons between different trading strategies and markets. It is useful to know that the best day traders make about 6-7 cents/share per trade. Calculating in terms of cents/share and ratios of gainers versus losers also gives the trader a way of calculating his expected win or loss in a given efficient market. This is the first trading book that gives a common dimensional unit (cents/share) that will become the trading measure of the future.
Rating: Summary: Yalie critic of editing needs editing by Harvard editor Review: andrew morris from Yale writes in a primitive germanic syntax. "This book never should have been published" should read "This book should never have been published". "Then I realized that there should be no next edition" should read "Then I realized that there should not be another edition". "Chapter" in the first sentence should not be capitalized. Also a colon should not be followed by a capital letter i.e."fooled:The" I recommend that Yale assign "Elements of Style" by Strunk and White to its undergraduates. Yale seems to teach a profound grasp of the obvious.
Rating: Summary: Positive, helpful approach Review: For a novice, getting information on this topic in the UK is impossible. There is real assistance available in this book, written by committed and experienced ex-street traders. However, while there are gems to be found, it is not a well structured book and not really for reference. Some parts are so detailed to be completely uncomprehensible, yet other parts were so thin that I will need to find help elswhere. I needed to keep notes to make sense. Do buy the book if you are new to this game - I saved the book price in my first half hour.
Rating: Summary: Excellent For New Day Traders Review: This book is one of the best available for Day Trading. The authors both demonstrate their experience in the book. The single biggest disappointment is their recommendation for using Datek as an on-line broker. I tried them and found them to have the slowest, the very slowest, response time of all of the on-line brokers I tried. I think the authors should have been more aware of this shortcoming. All in all, an excellent choice!
Rating: Summary: Want to trade for a living? Review: While this book has a title which harnesses the latest fad, "electronic" day trading, it is not of much practical value unless you enjoy gambling and losing money. Your day trading career should be based upon a solid foundation rather than a book intended to cash-in on the latest trend. Save your money and buy "Trading For A Living" by Elder instead. You won't be sorry and your bank account will thank you!
Rating: Summary: Very informative. Review: Excellent information and background on how trading is conducted. Lacks specific details on "how to".
Rating: Summary: Worth reading for the new electronic daytrader Review: A valuable asset for the beginning trader. Sure the book does appear to endorse "Datek" and "Watcher" trading systems, although I was already a happy "Datek" trader before reading the book. Discussion of market makers and specialists was very helpful in determining stock price movements. Simple, this book increased my trading returns and that is why I read it in the first place.
Rating: Summary: Great Day Trading Introduction Review: The authors both have obvious experience. They give what appears to be good, sound, advice. They explain the day trading marketplace in an easily understood manner. The links they give for other infomation sources proved to be invaluable. If there is a down side to the book, it would be the need for more advice aimed at the beginning day trader who does not have all the sophisticated tools available. This is a small point, however. This is the best of the several "Day Trading" books I've purchased. I recommend the book to anyone considering day trading.
Rating: Summary: Word of advice! Review: I was a Commodity Trading Advisor and day trader for more than ten years. If you want to day trade, this book is a must read. I will continue my current practice of buying quality and holding. Going back to 1929 to the current electronic era. I can name several day traders that were worth millions to billions and lost it all. The wealthiest wall street professional are investors not day traders. For example, Warren Buffet. Be careful, things will change. Treat each day trade as a business decision. My philosophy, traders and gamblers die broke.
Rating: Summary: Great Book would be greater with graphics. Review: Book contains some great heuristics that I have already verified in the few days since I read. Incredible value for the day trader. I could not absorb the book in one sitting and will have to read it a few more times to take it all in. I think in pictures and the authors have chosen to desribe nearly everthing in wordy paragraphs packed with numbers. This makes for difficult reading. This book would be a 5 star read if the authors would show sample charts and tables to further illustrate their ideas. The pictures would be more easily absorbed and stick with me longer.
