Rating: Summary: Great Starter Book Review: Just starting with VB6. Clear concise and well documented. Don't might spending money on a book like this one. Would like to see a followup that goes into the Webclasses and how to take a VB app and move it to the web.
Rating: Summary: You gonna like it if you are just beginning VB Review: Great book! The way book is organized is very good and teaches you step by step with 'screen shots' and you feel confident that you are doing the right thing. Beginners, if you are confused to buy a start-up book, this is the one.
Rating: Summary: Person who is looking to learn vb should buy!!!!! Review: By reading this book i have learned VB Like driniking milk. This is the only book i found which is very descriptive and easy to learn. First i read some Vb book and thought VB is very hard to learn but, after reading this book, i found that VB is not too hard to learn. Peter write covered almost all parts of VB in this book. The examples and Excercises for each and every chapter are very good.
Rating: Summary: One of the best learning tools I have found for VB Review: I am an in-house trainer with a medium-sized consulting company. I chose this book because I have used many of the Wrox books to learn other languages. My students raved throughout the course about how good this book explained all concepts, had real, working examples, and would be a great reference. They literally could not put it down. The case studies also help in teaching how to plan an application. If you are just beginning VB, this is the reference to start with.
Rating: Summary: Great beginner's book! Review: This book starts from the very beginning and works it's way step by step through VB6. I feel I learned VB6 pretty thoroughly using this book. It touched on more advanced topics towards the end of the book as well, such as the API, creating controls, components, etc. I'm still working through the 3 case studies in the back of the book. They start by analyzing real world business requirements and then building a VB program step by step. It's great! I highly recommend this book to any VB beginner.
Rating: Summary: Best VB Book I've Ever Found Review: I'm using this book to teach visual design courses at a university level. It is by far the best introductory book on Visual Basic that I've ever seen. What separates this book from other VB books is the detail concerning the nuts and bolts of using the language. Most books really just explain the stuff you probably could figure out yourself by reading the manuals. This book does a nice enough job of explaining the simple stuff, but it really shines in explaining the things that Microsoft does a poorer job with -- such as data access, creating classes, using ActiveX and even using the Windows API. And all of this is done with clear, concise explanations. If you are struggling to get past the basics with VB, this book will help.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Beginner's Guide! Review: After many moons spent as a server jockey, I decided I wanted to elevate myself to the ranks of a developer. Having not programmed for almost 7 years, I was looking to get into Windows development. I was looking for a book on VB 6, and Peter's book caught my eye in the book store. I can honestly say, it is one of the best investments I've ever made! Peter does a great job of illustrating the techniques to develop your own applications in no time. There were a couple little things that I found confusing, mostly because I hadn't written any code for such a long time; but by the end of the book I was able to start developing my own applications. I highly recommend this book for beginners, as well as Peter's follow up, Beginning VB 6 Objects. Peter's approach is so simple that even an MCSE + I can learn to do it! Wonderful books, and a pleasure to read!
Rating: Summary: Without a Doubt, the best VB book! Review: I agree with one of the reviews here. I tried to read this book to sleep, but I find that I keep staying awake, it is very interesting both the materials and styles.
Rating: Summary: GO GET IT..........NOW Review: Excellent for some new to V
Rating: Summary: Easy to Read !! Review: I found this book one of the most helpful computer books I've ever read. The author starts from scratch and teaches from the ground up. He fully explains concepts and then adds small examples that you can try out yourself. The author intuitively adds further explanations (usually with humor) when a concept or technique becomes difficult to grasp at first. I would recommend this book to anyone learning VB for the first time.
