Rating: Summary: A great book for beginning and intermediate VB programmers Review: This book is a great guide and learners reference for Visual Basic 6, and a guide to VB 6 if you allready know how to program in Visual Basic. If you have a heart for programming, I know you will not be able to put this book down. The Author well informs you of what is happening and gives you source codes for sample Applications. If you a Beginning Programmers you need this book. I've been programming in VB for 3 years. I saw this book, I got it, and I haven't put it down, even though I program every day, it still had interesting facts about VB6 that you may not know.
Rating: Summary: They don't get any better than this - laugh while you learn Review: In the past year I have read approximately 25 books on database theory, design and application development. Every one of them had 500 to 1000 pages - if they needed to or not. They work better than sleeping pills if you have trouble dozing off at night. This is the only book I have read that actually made me laugh while I learned. Peter Wright's mastery of the subject combined with his wit makes this one of the best books on the market to learn Visual Basic. My only critisism is that the title is a little to modest. The book takes you well beyond beggining topics in VB, but Mr. Wright makes it so much fun you hardly notice you are working!
Rating: Summary: This book is great! Review: I use this book to teach university and ZDU classes and it's one of the best Visual Basic books on the market. The first half of the book particularly is best for beginners. The second half attacks some topics that require some experience with Visual Basic. This edition of the book includes 3 Case Studies that give you a chance to see a working Visual Basic application in progress (I wrote one of them!) I should also tell you that I wrote the end of chapter questions and answers for the book as well. I have some errata and exercises for the book posted on my Visual Basic website.
Rating: Summary: An excellent intro to VB6 Review: I read this book about 2 years ago to teach myself VB6. A friend of mine recently asked me to recommend a book for him to learn basic object-oriented programming on windows and this book is the only one I can think of. The book is very clearly written as is any programming book published by Wrox. Nowadays, VB.net is much more popular. I guess if you want to learn VB, buy a book on VB.net instead.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book for VB 6 beginners! Review: This is an extremely well written book. Peter Wright has this way of writing that keeps you hooked on to the book. There is a sense of humor which helps. The book explains the topics in quite good detail with screen shots so that one won't get lost! The examples are bug-free and work fine. The chapter on objects and classes, though short gives quite a clear idea of object oriented programming and how VB handles it. The only hitch I found was that Chapter 12 onwards, the book gets a little too fast and some things are explained very tersely. Moreover, there are quite a lot of grammatical errors in Chapter 13 that ruin the train of thought and are irritating! It's as though the editors didn't go through the last few chapters very well. Overall, a very good book for anyone who wants to learn the basics of VB 6.
