Rating: Summary: Put me over the top! Review: This is a great book for understanding the things they gloss over in the MS Press book for the Network Infrastucture exam. I was looking for more material, since I've read on the cramsession site that the MS Press book was too weak to pass the exam. That book is great for getting a good and deep understanding of the subjects. Just what I needed to pass the MS test!
Rating: Summary: Good Win2k Networking Book Review: This is a nice book. Clear and understandable explanations of complex topics, and helpful diagrams of things they usually just talk about in my other TCP/IP books. I learned a lot from this book and its a good reference that I keep in the office.
Rating: Summary: Author Comments Review: Troubleshooting Windows 2000 TCP/IP was not just another tech writing project for us. It started out as a challenge and an opportunity. The challenge was to adequately cover a very complex and technical topic that has been addressed by many before us, some of whom have been recognized experts in the field for decades. The opportunity was to take material that is complex and technical, and present it in a way that is understandable, useful, and maybe even at times enjoyable to read. That became our goal, the one that turned this project into a true labor of love. You, the reader, will be the ultimate judge of whether we accomplished it.What this book is not: it's not intended to be a study guide, although we have included basic background information about Windows 2000 TCP/IP that may be helpful, as supplementary material, in preparing for the Microsoft exams. It is not just a regurgitation of Microsoft documentation and Internet standards - although we will refer to TechNet articles and RFCs when they contain additional information that you might find helpful. This book is also not intended to be a comprehensive guide to TCP/IP - there are many such books already out there. We focus here on troubleshooting issues: how TCP/IP works (or is supposed to work), why it sometimes doesn't, and what to do about it when problems occur. We have worked with both TCP/IP and Windows 2000 for quite some time, and find them to be an amazingly stable combination. TCP/IP was originally designed with reliability as a first priority, and the Windows 2000 operating sytem is by far the most reliable and robust Microsoft operating system ever released. Even so, the sheer complexity of both means problems will occur from time to time. This book was written for those times.
Rating: Summary: Good TCP/IP and Networking Book Review: We are in the process of moving from NT to Win2k and my boss made me the project manager. I had to get on top of Win2k networking fast. I bought this book on the recommendation of several of my co workers. Glad I got it. The book is informative and detailed in explanations and examples. A must have for the busy guy like me.

Rating: Summary: Beat the Know It Alls! Review: We were having some problems with our Win2k network config and I found this book. The NT "Guru" at our place said that the we had problems with the cache on the DNS Server. I didn't think he was right, and I found out from this book that I was right! I learned all about the client caching resolver and make the Know it all turn red :-) I liked the book because not only did it make me look smart in front of my boss, but its easy to find the info I needed. Nice TOC and the index isn't half bad. Hope to use it again to add another notch against the know it all!
