Summary: Best Tutorial I Found
Review: This book was clear and concise. It has an excellent section on pointers. I've tried several other C++ tutorials and this was the most useful.

Summary: I learned C++ from this book!
Review: I tried several other C++ tutorials, but this book is the one that I found the best by far. It is really well organized and easy to understand. I was having trouble with pointers, but Schildt made them seem easy. I really liked his explanation of constructors and destructors for classes.

Summary: Solid and thorough introduction to C++
Review: I found this an excellent beginner-level intro to C++, and yet still a fairly complete tour of the language. Only the Standard Template Library wasn't covered in depth, but even then, the most commonly-used STL classes were clearly explained. It's easy and quick reading; I read it cover to cover in about a week. I've read several reviews of books in the "from the ground up" series that complained that they were too advanced; if so, this book is an exception. I had only a rudimentary knowledge of C++ when I picked it up, but I found it very easy to follow. I recommed it highly.

Summary: A Must Have!
Review: I am taking a C++ class in which the instructor assigned four books. I was falling behind in the class because it is a fast paced class and out of the four books assigned, none of them were any good. I decided to go and buy this book, and it really payed off. It really does bring you "from the ground up". It starts with the basics, builds a solid foundation, and gradually brings you to the more advanced topics. PS: I am now doing well in the class. I only wish I had this text from the start.

Summary: Awsome Book
Review: I have read several book on c++ but this rates the highest. It is very easy to understand and I recommend it for the beginners (an expert might find this useless). I really wish my school used this book insted.

Summary: Excellent C++ beginner book
Review: I wanted to extend my programming knowledge to C++ and wanted a good source that would supply me with codeable examples and a building block format I code use to build up my new skills. This book delivered. Regardless of the flavor of C++ you are using (Borland, Microsoft, etc) this book can be a great way to get your feet wet. It explains topics in detail and gives you a lot of chances to write code to increase your understanding. I haven't found a programming book in any language that is as well written as Herbert Schildt's C++ From the Ground Up.

Summary: Buy it now
Review: Great book, go from the beginning and up just like the title said. Extremely useful for beginner. You may see other people complaining that some of the first chapter teaches basic stuff, well, duh, the title say "C++ from the ground up" so to those dufus that say that, i say readddddddd the title again. If you are a beginner, you should buy it, final.

Summary: Awesome Book
Review: I am a programmer and I learned from this book in the beginning. It is a great book for beginner or intermediate. I still use it to refer to once in awhile. You can also get all the code from the book offline so you don't have to spend hours typing and you can spend hours learning.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Thick but good
Review: The book is rather thick as all of the programming manuals this days. However, it provides a great learning tool, as well as good reference for programming techniques in both OOP and Imperative paradigms. Author should be more humble in his claims to be "the C++ Master". Just a personal note.

Summary: speed learning for c or java programmer
Review: I found that the begining of this book is somewhat basic for those who know c or java and I think the first 8 chapter is quite familiar for them too, but i think it is good for beginner, it explain data type, operator, expression control statement, function, and pointer. Chapter 11 will introduce you to class which i think have to give special attention from here. It pretty easy to understand, very well explaination. Thanks to Herber Schildt.
