Review: If you want an introduction to ColdFusion beyond the basic CFDOCs this is the book you must get. Some other books think they can just get by on telling you the very basics only relating directly to ColdFusion, that might get you started. In reality there is alot more to ColdFusion then the basic CFML language. Ben Forta covers all of the topics from setting up a database, learning basic SQL, using third party software, plus all stages of ColdFusion development and a great ColdFusion refernce. If you are a webmaster, and want to get out of old static webpages, get into ColdFusion with this book right now! If you thought you enjoyed creating websites before as a hobby or a career, just wait until you try this. It will open your eyes to the dynamic world of webpages!In response to the last reviewer's comments, I find it personally offensive that they insult Ben Forta based on his age, saying that he is relying on his name to carry his new book. The fact is Ben Forta has made his own reputation, he is known in the community for his excellent skill in training ColdFusion developers. If we didn't have him as a whole the success of ColdFusion would not be what it is now, we atleast owe him our respect, he has done an excellent job, and that is why people enjoy his books so much.

Summary: Doesn't cover all CF functions. Read Cold Fusion's docs
Review: Forta misses alot of functions new to 4.0 He also misses alot on CFHTTP (a very cool feature). I was more impressed with previous versions. I recommend reading the online docs included with the software, rather than waising money on a less detailed paperback version. Forta is slipping with age. He must be relying on his reputation to carry him through continued book sales.

Summary: Excellent RAD for making Dynamic and interative Web Pages
Review: The more you say about this book is less. In one sentence you have to write the complete book to tell the beauty of this book. Well I am not over yet, Abosolutely easy to understand and hats off to <Allaire> and <Ben Forta>. If you have anything to do web(understanding,designing etc.), this book is highly recommended. I am advanced to buy Advance CFML. ENJOY!!!

Summary: Get`s you going, quickly
Review: Got this as i had to develop 2 data driven employment websites, in around 10 days. Basically, the book help`d me to get it done. It`s well written (3rd Edition) practical and comes at ya in bite sized chunks. Its also pretty easy to dip in and find out about specific area`s without having to read from start to finish.

Summary: A very practical "Cookbook" for Cold Fusion Web development
Review: This book and its predecessor have proven to be excellent "Cookbooks" for developing Cold Fusion applications for the last two years here at the Collier County Government. There is almost always a practical example to be a guide for each of the small things that go into applications we write. Examples are clearly explained and they WORK! We standardized on Cold Fusion rather than ASP in part because of the much faster learning curve the Forta Book makes possible. (We could find no equivalent book for ASP). Further, we almost never refer to the Cold Fusion manuals that come with the Product - the Forta book is the reference of choice. This reviewer's background includes writing in 25 different programming languages over the years and this is the best practical "How to do it" software manual I have seen to date.

Summary: Get a quick start on deploying CF based applications
Review: The book provides you with sufficient detail to get you up an running in programming CF websites. Previous HTML and website work is assumed and therefore extreme novices may find this book too advanced. There are lots of code and application examples to give you a feel for developing your own sites. The layout of the book is a bit jumbled causing you to leave here and there before you find the answer your need. Often the index leads you to a dead-end. Still, using this book to supplement the CF documentation will give you much success.

Review: The best got even better. If anybody can find me any better book than this one I will pay for the copies and send them to those who bought this book. There's no other ultimate reference in the market today.

Summary: Great for starters and experienced professionals
Review: The author has done an excellent job by using a step by step approach to the whole thing. The book really gets you started with the very basics of setting up your development environment and also walks you through the process of learning basic Cold Fusion and SQL. It also gives you a head start on the database front. The examples are very well choosen to demonstrate the power of Cold Fusion.

Review: In fact, most of the material in the book can be found in the various reference manuals that come with ColdFusion Studio 4.0. However, Ben Forta has consolidated the important information into a single resource and includes examples (both in the book and the included CD) that make this book a necessary addition to any ColdFusion developer's library. And, if you're just curious about ColdFusion, the included CD includes all that you need to try it out (at least until the 30-day eval programs expire). Get this book.
