Rating: Summary: Very good for the beginner to intermidiate... Review: I purchased this book because my place of employment recently began using Cold Fusion 4 to aid in the development of Web to Database applications. I found this book to be extremely informative from the standpoint of knowing nothing about Cold Fusion. It covered the basic principles behind how it works, as well as installation issues, and then teaches you to create some simple yet useful project applications. The only thing I wish they would improve upon in this book is adding a little more on using it within an Intranet. Most of the installation and configuration guides are more concentrated on interaction on the Internet. Other then that, I would reccomend this book to anyone who is just starting to learn Cold Fusion or to those who know just a little about it already but want to learn more.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book, don't be intimidated by its size Review: This book is great. If you are realy serious about CF development, you will end up buying the advanced book by the same editor (also by Que). The book size is intimidating and for this reason it seems initially that it is not most suited for an introductory book but it is. I wouldn't waste any money on buying an introductory book - jump right in.
Rating: Summary: Terrible book! Doesn't explain anything! Totally useless! Review: This is probably one of the worst technical books that I have ever tried to use. There are almost no code examples, all the explanation are made using ambiguous terminology which left me scratching my head and cursing the author. This is really a pathetic effort. Unfortunately, he's authoring one of the Sam's Teach Yourself, so I'll get the other one.
Rating: Summary: A excellent book but not worth buying it Review: I found The Coldfusion 4.0 Web Application Construction Kit is the best ColdFusion book out there, it covers with all the information a reader need to learn about coldfusion with excellent example. But the only thing I realize is The Coldfusion software package manual also has one of the best online manual on the market and it is almost identical to the book. So my suggestions is if you are used reading online books, don't waste your money on something you already have. Otherwise, it is the best Coldfusion book you can find.
Rating: Summary: Helpful Despite the Errors. Review: Overall I found this book an excellent resource for a novice CF user. The chapters on SQL were handled effortlessly obviously from someone with an excellent grasp of the language. I find the format for technical books better if arranged to step the reader through numerous examples and with plenty of interaction. I find it the best way to remember and recall concepts when needed. The book goes part way at achieving this. However the numerous mistakes in code and sloppy proof reading sometimes are frustrating, especially when debugging, as the CF error messages can be somewhat cryptic at first.
Rating: Summary: All You Need To Learn CF Review: I had to learn Cold Fusion for work. I figured since I already knew different web programming languages, I could learn CF quick. I was right, and it was because of this book. Spend a couple of days reading this book and working on the examples, and you'll be up to speed in CF in no time. I still use this and the Advanced book by Forta as reference frequently.
Rating: Summary: Good book for Cold Fusion starters Review: I see some low ratings but from the review its apparent that those users picked up the wrong book. You have to keep in mind the target audience for this book, which is developers wanting a taste of the power of Cold Fusion. Ben Forta does a great job of explaining how the tools in Cold Fusion work. Experienced users should go for the Advanced Coldfusion 4.0 Application Development book.
Rating: Summary: Its THE BOOK Review: I recommend to everyone who is working in ColdFusion that do not go for any other book except a book written by Ben Forta. The book equally covers all the aspects of ColdFusion from the scratch through intermediate and then to advanced levels.
Rating: Summary: Need to Find A HordCover Version Review: This book put me into the job I have today. I am a Cold Fusion Developer and this book got me started, and Every Cold Fusion developer I've worked with has this book. I need a hardcover copy because the paperback version I have is falling apart. I still constantly use the index when I can't remember the syntax for a tag. Ben Forta is and shall always be MY CF God.
Rating: Summary: When will the CF 4.5 vertion by Ben Forta be published? Review: I would like to know when the Coldfusion 4.5 vertion of this book will be published. Anybody has an idea?
