Rating: Summary: Not bad, not great Review: Not bad, not great. Mr Ault and Co. have a fair book. I feel that it might have been written in a bit of haste, and that it was written using the Beta version of 10g, as there are some things in it that did not work just quite right. Still, some good information and I'm glad I bought it. Looking forward to Freemans book as well.
Rating: Summary: Useful and Time Saving Review: This book will pay for itself, I'm glad I have it. It is excellent for getting a jump start on 10g. Cuts right to the chase. Having read some of the other reviews I think some have an axe to grind and I would not pay much attention to them.
Rating: Summary: Excellent and exhaustive new features guide Review: This is an excellent and exhaustive review of oracle 10g new features. It contains a great list of new features, together with clear explanations and numerous examples. Being a senior DBA, I find this book to be a great help in my study of 10g. Coming from Mike Ault, a well known author of database management books and a long time DBA himself, I expected nothing short of excellence, and, once again, Mike and his co-authors delivered. Excellent book, a must have for anybody who wants to learn about the oracle latest and the greatest database.
Rating: Summary: One of the best! Review: This is one of the best new features book that I have seen in quite some time. It goes beyond the high-level overview of the new 10g features and give working examples about how the features relate to existing Oracle9i systems. This is one book that I expect to use very frequently as I get started in 10g.
Rating: Summary: The best I've seen yet! Review: This is the best 10g New Features book out there.
I got hold of the Oracle Press New Features book as soon as it was released and was pretty disappointed as it contained very little substance.
In contrast this book contains loads of information on all the useful new features and is well worth having. I've spent plenty of time reading the Oracle manuals and it seems to me that this book condenses all the relevant information into a single volume.
Rating: Summary: In response to chapter 1 questions Review: We regret the error in chapter 1 and in the latest release of the book this has been corrected. Madhu, Daniel and I put a lot of work into this book and we hope you will read further than chapter 1. In this rapid paced world if we don't write to beta releases we end up with the second or even third book out, unfortunately that usually means second or third in sales as well regardless of technical content. We wrote to the beta and the best documentation available, also, all chapters where reviewed by an Oracle tech reviewer. We cover the features that we beileve are applicable to DBAs. We feel this is a great book, and hope you will too!
