Rating: Summary: Personal Touch Review: Aaland's personal touch and writing style helped me work through the examples and relate it to my own pictures. His examples showed me that this product can actually be used by regular joes like me using my consumer digital camera and I that I don't need a pro set up to make my images look good. I know that my family will enjoy my pictures more after going through this book. I highly recommend this book if you want to make great digital images.
Rating: Summary: Photoshop Elements Solutions (With CD-ROM) Review: Although the information in the book was informative, and I leared a lot about the Photoshop elements, the quality of the book was not. I had the book for less that 2 weeks when it started to fall apart, with pages falling out and the binding coming apart. If they are going to have this book for use as a manual it should be better bound.
Rating: Summary: Photoshop Elements Solutions (With CD-ROM) Review: As a recent convert to digital photography I came across Photoshop Elements software and began experimenting with it on my computer. It was fascinating but I only used a few of its features - although realizing there were many more available. My attempts to understand the more complex functions like the use of layers got bogged down in the detailed explanations within the program and in the users guide. While they were sufficiently detailed to explain how each feature worked individually, they never put them into a usable context. After seeing a recommendation for Photoshop Elements 2 Solutions, I bought Mikkel Aalands' book. It is a revelation. I feel I have gone from a rank amateur to a serious user after only a short time following the book's clear explanations and vivid examples. What this book does not do is explain every feature within the program. What it does do exceedingly well is provide practical examples of how to accomplish specific tasks that require you to group a number of features together and tells you step by step how to do so. It is helped immeasurably by an enclosed CD that enables you to follow the book's instructions and perform the steps yourself on your computer. Layers and a lot of other functions are now easy for me to understand and use. Disappointing pictures I have taken are now being transformed into really nice photographs. Equally important it gives you the fundamental basis and the motivation to further explore how to use the program. The book is written for both Photoshop Elements Versions 1 and 2. It helpfully explains where they differ. I highly recommend this for users of the Photoshop Elements program and believe it will benefit newcomers to digital editing as well as experienced users.

Rating: Summary: A cut above Review: As an experienced technical writer, I've become able to tell the difference between a how-to book that is more or less parroting the software features and one that crawls inside the program and shows what is really going on and why it matters to the user. This book is in the latter category. It may not be suitable as a reference (I await Peachpit's VQS for that), but it should be invaluable for any digital shutterbug who wants to get the most out of a bundled copy of Elements. By the way, for those who want more of the example image files than are provided on the CD, look [at their website].
Rating: Summary: Photoshop Elements Solutions Review: As I am just getting started in Digital Photography, I purchased this book to get more information on PS Elements and digital manipulation. I am more impressed with the author and his website for those with questions. He went out of his way by assisting me in getting a tutorial software program from Sybex as I have a learning disability. If there was any way I could thank him more than just giving him this glowing review about the his book I would, so here goes.....Buy the book! Get to know the author!

Rating: Summary: We need more example photos! Review: Good book, except only a small number of the photos he gives as examples are included on the CD. Without those, I was forced to find my own, but it became very difficult to follow his instructions as a result. A big bummer.
Rating: Summary: A winner Review: Great book. Outstanding print quality with good color illustrations. Mikkel's advice is easy to follow and produces great results. The only one to buy.
Rating: Summary: 2 disappointments Review: I agree with the various favorable reviews about this book with two exceptions 1 Seldom does the author explain why he is entering various amounts in the dialog boxes. This is particularly maddening when . . . 2 The CD with the book only contains a few of the pictures of the techniques being shown in the book. If more of them were on the cd it would be a lot easier to follow along and figure out why the author did what he did. I'm sure lack of space had much to do with it, but if that were the case, the publisher or author might have considered making the images avialable on the web. These two things greatly diminished my appreciation of what is otherwise an outstanding book.
