Summary: Don't Be An Idiot
Review: I've used several Idiot's Guides and Dummy books in the pasy with a high level of satisfaction. This one doesn't measure up to the standards the others have set.

The book is overly simplistic, and everything taught can be found easily on the web for free. Don't waste your money on this one.

Summary: Gadzillion Stars for this one
Review: If ever a technical book deserved a gadzillion stars, this one did. It really does deliver what it promises...

In his introduction, Paul McFedries says that he will "...teach you how to create beautiful web pages in no time flat ...it's my goal in this book to show you that it's really quite simple and that anyone can build a page with their bare hands." He succeeds admirably! The book set up is simple and easy to follow and, as McFedries promises, you can follow through the steps just as they are organized in the book and, in no time, start shaping together your own web pages.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Creating a Web Page doesn't assume you have any previous knowledge with Web page production (good job too!), and this means that you really do start from scratch, slowly building your HTLM knowledge. All information is presented in short, easy-to-digest chunks and the referencing is clear an precise.

As a bonus, the accompanying CD has notes and examples on all the chapters and completes the perfect manual for beginners on the Web. WELL DONE Paul McFedries.

Summary: Don't let the title fool you-it's a GREAT book
Review: If you are looking to purchase a GREAT book on the subject of HTML...get this one! This series has, to me, some of the best ideas, tips and helps available in the field! The IDIOT'S GUIDE will take you by the hand and lead you on an adventurous path of wonder and UNDERSTANDING of the sometimes complex world of HTML. It is a MUST have reference book to what you need on HTML and Web Page authoring! My 12 year old daughter and I were both able to put up our Web Pages starting in March 1998, using information found in this VERY humorous book, with NO prior HTML knowledge! We both highly recommend this GUIDE for beginners, AND advanced users! You will too!

Summary: Superb Book! Well written and easy to understand!
Review: If you want to get started on learning about HTML and don't know anything about it this is THE book to turn to! The book is well written and easy to understand for any beginner. I started the book with a vague idea of what HTML was and now I'm one of the office experts on HTML. There is even a mailing list for those who have questions. What more could you ask for?

Summary: *The* HTML-for-beginners book.
Review: In response to an earlier review - THE WEBSITE AND LIST DO INDEED EXIST! (I've been subscribed to the list for nearly 2 years, and have 14 messages from it waiting in my inbox as I write!) I currently maintain two commercial websites, and learned most of what I know from Paul's three books. I'm also a librarian, and have read many books on HTML, and found Paul's to be *by far* the clearest, most organized, and most helpful. The true test? I *own* copies of all three editions! (Because I work in a library every day, a book has to be especially useful for me to fork out the $$$ to buy it when I can borrow it easily and for free.....)

Summary: Hmmmm.......
Review: McFedries does an effective job of holding the neophyte's hand and leading them through the basic's of HTML and web page construction. The book is well thought out, well organized, and McFedrie's relaxed down to earth writing style makes an easy and personable read. This latter point is both an asset and a liability, however, as I at times found myself wishing he would cut to the chase and be a bit more concise. Some of the topics, such as adding multimedia and elements of style are treated very superficially. But perhaps McFedries views them beyond scope of his book and does this intentionally, for he does provide links to sites where such info abounds. In summary, the book is excellent as a basic introduction for an absolute beginner without much computer savvy (9 - 10), but the intermediate user will find themselves wanting a bit more depth (5 - 6). At least I did

Summary: Something New, Nothing Old-THIS BOOK HAS ME SOLD!
Review: McFedries is awesome! Not only was I a master of HTML after reading (even without using a computer the week I read it), but the book was a great resource for questions I had later....and here's the clincher: I emailed Paul McFedries about a problem I was having with some HTML....and he replied. He worked with me a few times until the solution was seen. This guy, this book....EXCELLENT!

Summary: Clear and Fun To Read
Review: My job sent me to an HTML class, and the manuals they gave out were not helpful. Fortunately, I found this book, and it's wonderful for anyone who wants a better understanding of HTML and web page design. This book does not make the mistake of assuming that the person has any kind of familiarity with the subject. It explains everything in clear English, and the author sprinkles humor throughout the text. It also includes a CD with helpful information to further understand the subject.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An excellent guide for any novice wanting to write a website
Review: Paul McFedries adopts the style of a friendly chat over a cup of coffee. He cuts through the jargon and rapidly inspires confidence - Hey! I could do this! is the message all through. The book is well organised in logical chapters each building on the previous ones to take a simple web page with only text and grow it to a complete web site with pictures, sounds, frames and forms. There are plenty of examples in the text and a very useful CD accompanying the book contains them all plus many other useful graphics and scripts to add to your web site. There are also many suggestions for other sources of help and resources from the Internet. If you want to learn about HTML and writing web sites, this is the book.
