Summary: Good intentions but bad editing
Review: The intent of this book is to teach ASP by going through the steps of building a complex website, but it falls a little short in its goal. First of all there are many editing errors which can be frustrating when you don't catch them. The examples tend to get complicated pretty quick and it would be hard for readers new to ASP to catch on. The author seems to tell you what to do instead of showing you how and why you are doing it. One plus about the book are the many different aspects of ASP that it does cover, from database integration to setting up secure order forms, even touching on XML and SQL. This book is one of those to buy at your own risk, if you already know a some ASP and dont mind some editing errors then its a good deal, otherwise keep looking.

Summary: This book is riddled with errors
Review: The messages posted here do not concur with my experiences. It is a FACT that there are a huge number of errors in the code provided which will make you wish that you bought something that had been proofread properly How long did it take the list of people below me (all strangely giving the book 5 stars suggesting that it could not be improved on) to get through ASP 3.0 from scratch? I have an Computing related degree and am an accomplished programmer but gave up after 4 chapters and weeks of misery. This book is, in it's current fault ridden state, a very poor purchase and would dissuade any 'from scratch' programmer from pursuing what is in essence a not difficult technology.

Summary: A good book for asp database developers!
Review: This book certainly is not for novice reader. However, this book covers some areas which will certainly be very helpful to beginners as well as intermediate level database developers. There are very good examples in this book which can be used in a variety of ways. I was really impressed with chapters 5 and 7. Not very many books show such examples. For example, in chapter 7, it shows you how to update multiple records (updating quantity in a shopping cart) by using very simple sql statements. Certainly there are some typos in this book. Personally, if I want to test something, I like to type the codes myself rather than using codes from the CDs. This way I can ignore the codes which will not serve my purpose. Overall, this is a very good book for asp database developers.

Summary: Worst editing job I have ever seen
Review: This book has got to be the worst book I have ever seen as far as editing is concerned. There is an EXTENSIVE errata page and even after using it, the application that you create with the book doesn't work. I do not recommend this book to anyone. How anybody could give this book 5 stars is totally beyond me.

Summary: Incomplete
Review: This book is ONLY good if you want a jest of what ASP is about. But forget it if you are going into heavy ASP programming. It skims through the important to ASP and it leaves out many essential details. Even if you are beggining ASP it is worth getting a more complete book.

Review: This book takes you from start to finish on an ASP project. It is a great learning tool for beginners, I highly recommend it if you are new to Active Server pages, web scripting and database interactivity.

Summary: OUTSTANDING BOOK, Highly Recommend!
Review: This has been the best book I've read this year! It was very hard to put down, and I found myself constantly looking at everything thinking, "Would ASP help me here?" The chapters were laid out very well, and the examples were outstanding. I was quiet surprised to see that most of these worked on about any browser. I highly recommend this one!

Summary: Good book but too many errors
Review: This is a great book for learning ASP. dont need prior VBSCRIPT knowledge at all. All explained. He builds an entire website with auction and shopping cart capability. Will feel you have accomplished something at the end. There are too many typos though. He has an errata posted nevertheless at nicholaschase.com Also he mentions that installation for Web server is in appendix A but guess what???? THERE IS NO APPENDIX A. If you are a beginer go ahead. Try it.
