Rating: Summary: This Book is great for creating store front, it rocks!!! Review: I read a lot of computer books. Most of them are either too theoretical or not hands-on. But I'm so pleased that I have chosen this book. It is very praticle and I wish I had this earlier. This book rocks!!
Rating: Summary: Great intro book. Review: I read this book first about six months ago. I am now programming ASP and learning more complex languages. This book was a great foundation for someone with no prior programming experience, plus the fact that you actually build applications that are useful and that can be reused. I still go back to it when I need something explained in "English".
Rating: Summary: It's OK, but you better be very intuitive about developing Review: I started reading ASP from Scratch to supplement my reading of "Beginning Active Server Pages 3.0" by Wrox (which is a great starting point, highly recommend). I was lucky to have some background of ASP. Chase goes right into code, and you better read every word or you are apt to miss something that is integral to the program. If you are the type that likes to learn the basics, stay away form this book. Chase seems to be able to dive right in and hope that you can pick it right up with out much of an explanation. It's not a bad book for some one with an understanding of what is going on in developing a web site. All in all it is not a bad book, but not my first recommendations for a beginners guide.

Rating: Summary: Good book for all readers Review: I was new to ACtive Server Pages. This was the first ever book i bought. Dont be fooled that this is not on the best seller list. It is i great book for learning VBSCRIPT even if you dont have prior knowledge of Visaul Basic though some programming knowledge is required. Unlike most computer tutorial books, this one actaully gets your hands dirty by building a full fledged ASP site that has registration, customization, chat, auction and a bunch of other funky utilities. You will feel productive after finishing this book. On the flip side this book has a lot of typos. Some parts need editing. Finally this book throws you into the world of VBscript without going over data types and language definition. This book works as a great supplementation with 'Sams Teach yourself ASP in 21 days'. These two books are all i recommend.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this book Review: Ideas poorly explained. Spent much time trying to work things out for myself. Book is a dead loss not even in the same league as wrox ASP professional. As for the dedication and acknowledgements ... you fool yourself and you fooled me, hopefully no-one else.
Rating: Summary: Good for starters but TOO many errors Review: If you are not familiar with ASP at all, this book might helpful to you. The best part of the book is it cover lots of things about ASP. Starting from writing a simple message on screen, up to creating an online store. But all the code samples full with typos and errors. And after you finish half of the book, you are starting to code your own way. Writer underestimates SQL language. He even says "UGLY SQL Code" and he types 15 lines of code, which you can accomplish same thing with 3-4 lines of SQL code, if you can create tables, choose column types and attributes wisely. I bought this book, I am not fully satisfied but I am not dissapointed either. My recommendation is, if you wanna buy this book don't pay for new one, buy a used one instead. Like me :)
Rating: Summary: Too many errors Review: Many examples don't work in this book - there are too many errors in the code.
Rating: Summary: The Best Computer Book I've Ever Bought Review: Speaking as an IT professional of 20 years, this is the best value I've received in a computer book ever, and I've bought hundreds (it seems like). The book teaches the concepts of ASP in the process of building an actual real-world type project. As one builds the project, the book supplies the information behind the concepts, do and don'ts, and provides an excellent model for code construction as well as good strategies for design. I've gotten more out of this book than the ASP class my company paid a hefty fee to send me to.My only recommendation to the authors is that as the project relies on components from the IIS 4.0 Resource Kit that this information should be supplied if the components themselves cannot be (since Microsoft sells these components as part of the book by the same title). Based on my experience with this book I've bought three more in this series on XML, Java2, and Visual Basic 6.
