Rating: Summary: good book to have Review: I have reviewd this book by person, and I think it's pretty good,it tells some specifications that is good for beginners who are interested in the developer's level.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant ! Review: I would like to say, that this book was truly enjoyable from beginning (and yes - I read all of it) to the end. It is not for the total novice. However, if you are, you better make sure you read the back of the book... It says Int./Adv.If you can write semi-decent code, and understand 10% of Access's built in functions, then this book is for definately for you IMHO... I love this book so much, that I began creating some VB classes and Access class modules from the source code they have provided to help me with my job... As usual, the authors get the credit in my code ! If Litwin, Getz, and Gilbert read this... 'Great Job' and 'Will you cover Access 2000 too ?' If Sybex reads this... Give them a BIG raise ! GREAT BOOK !
Rating: Summary: My only Access book, er.. Bible! Review: This is the only Access book I now own. I find the examples extremely helpful and it has pulled me out of a bind quite a few times. Definitely NOT a beginners guide, but if you are a skilled Access Developer I HIGHLY recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT ONE STOP SHOP FOR ADVANCE ACCESS IDEAS Review: I am a Access developer and have come to fall in love with this book and it's predecesors. I know that it is a must for any Developer (Hence Developer's Handbook). If you are new to Access but love coding you can rely on this book. If you want Macros then you will not find this the most helpful. I used this as my review tool for getting Access Certified!
Rating: Summary: After 4 yrs of Access, I still learned allot from this book. Review: After programming in Access since version 1.1 a developer can be hard pressed to find a book with any information worth learning. This is the first book to come along to change this. In the first 100 pages I learned many new programming methods that would have taken the compilation of 4 or more other books. I would recommend this book to ALL Access, VBA, & VB programmers. 3 cheers to the author!
Rating: Summary: A detailed and concise intermediate/advanced reference. Review: Litwin, Getz and GIlbert provide a great deal of practical knowledge in this book. The stuff that drives you crazy (how does replication really work, what's the best way to set it up, when should you use it) is presented in a clear and concise format. Great reference.U
Rating: Summary: The best book of many I have read on Access 97 development Review: This book characterises all that a computer programming book should be. It is clear in its objectives and meets them. As a convert from other database languages it explained clearly how to program Access 97, and also how to use it effectively. In particular I liked the many code examples, and have used some of those provided on the CD. My only criticism is that I develop for a multi-lingual marketplace, and the book is a bit lacking on how to address these specific issues.
Rating: Summary: Thanks, guys! Review: You folks just put me back on schedule, so I'm going to write as rave a review as I possibly can in the time I've gained. Just read through 4 other books dealing with combo boxes, plus the on-line page. Don't you just love 2 page indexes in 400 page technical books filled with trivial examples? Should have just gone straight to this one: there's a demo database that illustrates that specific subject, saving the spelunking through Northwind and Orders once again. Objectively: 1544 pages, index starts at 1486, 24 chapters, 2 appendices, 28 databases, 3 Excel worksheets and various other files to support and illustrate the text. And that's just the directory for the chapters. Is there a Pulitzer for computer books? Because if you can't understand this one..."Class Modules Are Like Cookie Cutters", "Object Instances Are The Cookies"...well, what are you doing programming? Try Betty Crocker instead.
Rating: Summary: A Beginner can use this book! Review: I bought this book about 3 months ago and I am still carrying it around. I had not programmed for about 11 years and needed alot of help with anything other than the 'canned' wizards in Access. The first half of this book is very useful for a beginner. The examples are good but I think they could be a little more sophisticated when it comes to the queries. Over all this book can take the user a long way.
Rating: Summary: Stop - Dont get the wrong book! Review: After the roaring success of "Microsoft Access 2 Developers Handbook", Microsoft Press published "Microsoft Access 97 Developers Handbook" (Hm!!). Don't let your Secretary, Wife or Kids buy you the wrong book. Litwin and Getz book for Access 97 is titled "Access 97 Developer's Handbook", I almost made the mistake myself. Of all the Access books. This is a must. With this as a reference, as well as good reading, I can do anything in Access!!
