Summary: Oracle9i SQLJ: Excellent Book
Review: Add this book to your collection if you are serious about SQLJ. Technically reviewed by an Oracle authority on the subject, Ekkehard Rohwedder (Mr. SQLJ himself), this book takes you step by step into SQLJ from beginner's level to advanced features of SQLJ. I definitely recommend this book to Java programmers who need to develop database applications using JDBC or SQLJ

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Most of the programs do not work
Review: I bought this book, got it home, and ended up spending most of my time fixing the programs and scripts which did not work. The result? Time wasted. I returned this book. It sucks.

Summary: I love SQLJ, but I don't like this book!
Review: I didn't think much of this book, I'm sorry to say.

I found the organization of the book haphazard and poorly thought out. Also, the database schemas used in this book were somewhat confusing, even for an advanced user of the Oracle database and SQLJ like me. The book does a poor job explaining the simple aspects of SQLJ, but also doesn't cover the advanced aspects of the language well either.

This book suffers from having too many authors, none of whom really seem to understand the details of SQLJ very well, or at least, they don't do a good job explaining them to the reader!

I like SQLJ, and there's no doubt that SQLJ is a more efficient way to access a database from Java than using JDBC, but I wouldn't want to learn SQLJ from this book.

I hate to say this, save your money: buy a different book on SQLJ

Summary: Not much good
Review: I learned SQLJ some time ago, and did not like this book. I use SQLJ lots and like it, but would not recommend this book.

Summary: Poorly organized, poor programs
Review: I managed to learn SQLJ from this book, but it was an uphill battle. The authors skip around a lot, and there's a lot of duplication. I had some problems with compiling some of the programs also.

Summary: Excellent Book on SQLJ
Review: I saw this book while surfing amazon for books related to SQLJ. I am a JDBC programmer. I heard about SQLJ and I wanted to know more about the subject.

After the first 4 chapters of this book,I was able to rapidly develop database applications using SQLJ implementations.

I highly recommend this book to serious JDBC programmers who wish to know alternative ways of accessing databases.

Summary: Excellent Book, indeed
Review: I wanted to learn more about SQLJ, specifically Oracle SQLJ. I bought this book and I must say, it's worth every penny. I specifically enjoyed the chapters on SQLJ Update Batching and how to handle BLOB and CLOB.

It's an excellent book and I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about SQLJ in general and specifically Oracle SQLJ.

Summary: SQLJ: What is it?
Review: Oracle9i SQLJ Programming book answers the above question in many different ways via real world programs that teach you how to access "pure" relational databases and object-relational databases. As a novice JDBC/SQLJ programmer, Part I of this book will give you the basics of SQLJ. As an advanced JDBC/SQLJ programmer, Part II-IV of 9i SQLJ Programming will add a lot to your knowledge.

This book is a must.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Everything about SQLJ
Review: Oracle9i SQLJ Programming is THE book for you if you want to know everything about SQLJ. With excellent program samples, the book teaches how to develop database programs using SQLJ. Divided into 4 parts. Part I gives you SQLJ basics using a relational database. Part II takes you to advanced features: Java/SQLJ stored procedures, SQLJ connection context, basic iterators and scrollable iterators, streams. Part III teaches you how to manipulate object-relational databases, and so on. This is a practical book and an excellent reference for JDBC/SQLJ programmers.
