Summary: Good as a reference
Review: I find this book gives short details on just about every subject it holds.
Although some may agree its good for beginners, its definetly something i wouldnt read front to back when im new to C++.
But the good thing about this book is if your looking for a function or cant remember what certain code does, it does explain it well enough for you to remember and also gives you little hints and tips for what your searching for.
Id almost say its a MUST HAVE for any C++ programmer.

Summary: A Must Have Book for Programmers
Review: I found answers (and normally sample source code) that addressed problems I have been trying to solve for weeeks. This book belongs on the shelf of every C++ programmer.

Summary: Tons of working examples
Review: One of the best programming titles I own. It is my best book on Visual C++.The book is packed with working source code examples (hundreds). I was able to cut and paste working code from the book into my apps which saved me time. Highly recommend.

Summary: Good beginners book.
Review: This is a good beginners' book. However, the title lies. It does not contain 1001 programming tips, unless you consider all of the steps in a first course Visual C++ programming class as tips. I don't. To me, a tip is something you want to learn after you've gotten the basics under your belt. The book does go into depth about a lot of material that you won't find in any other beginner book. For example, reading how to add text and a bitmap to a toolbar button in the MSDN is unnecessairly confusing. Whereas "1001 Programming Tips" clearly shows you how -- and it worked. So on a level of completeness, it is an excellent book for beginners, intermediate developers, and a good reference. It is also a well written book.

Summary: NOT FOR BEGINNERS!
Review: Well since the book was written to be a refference to someone who is pretty handy with Visual C++, beginners do not read this book.
But, if your like me, I have a hard time remembering some funtions of some MFC classes and so on.
This Book makes a great refference and shows you examples and a full explantion of how that piece of code works.
Definetly a must have for any MFC programmer like myself :).
