Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: If your're a beginner some parts might be too complex for you, but with time, you'll get there.I've been learning C and bought several books, Kernighan's is a classic, but it's too condensed, lacks some detailed explanations and is now a bit dated maybe. Still a good referece, but if I could have only one C book, I'd keep this one. I also read some of the "fast" books like Teach Yourself C in 24h and Teach yourself C in 21 days, and a few others. A book on C is still my favorite. The introduction to Javascript and C++ is a nice extra too.
Rating: Summary: Begginers? Yes... Look at this! Review: If you are new to C and want to learn it quickly just buy this book! Don't worry about Chapter 1 as it makes you feel as a complete idiot. The thing is that you don't have to learn C just reading this chapter and the book really doesn't make this point very clear. But as you continue to read the book you will discover and really believe that C is not an impossible thing to learn like many people like to say. This book is perfect for novices and experts as well. Don't waste your time looking for other books. Buy this one! La garantia soy jo!
Rating: Summary: Excelent Reference and Teaching Tool Review: Succeeds where Brian Kernighan's "The C Programming Langauge" fails. Concise enough to use as a handy reference for the veteran C programmer, yet robust enough to include examples for most programming constructs. Highest reccomendation.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for first time C programmers Review: I purchased this book because of it's high reader review, and I am glad I did. This is an excellent foundation for C programming, and I reccomend it for anyone wanting to learn C.
Rating: Summary: Now I understand what I'm doing Review: I struggled through my C class and somehow pulled a B, but I didn't really "Get It". Now I do. This book is fabulous. Not only do I understand all of the material from my college course, this book when well beyond anything we touched on in class. Very well written and easy to follow.
Rating: Summary: The best C programming book for learners Review: I have been a software engineer writing in C/C++ for several years now, and I always unequivocally recommend this book to anyone who asks me for a book on C programming at the beginner and intermediate level. I've rarely found a text book in any field that combines such a level of rigour with such a fluid writing style. Even now, I still refer to some of the more advanced sections to brush up my knowledge. Kelley and Pohl deserve congratulations for creating such a useful work (and for making it a no-brainer when someone asks me for a recommendation for a C programming book).
Rating: Summary: One word: GREAT! Review: I can't explain how great this book is in words. It just blew my mind. I had tried the Kernighan/Ritchie book before this.. but I got nowhere fast. So I bought this and I think I learned more in the first 50 pages than I would have if I would have read the entire K&R book. If you want to learn C, BUY THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: The best book on C for every user Review: After using this book since 1984 along with its updates and its programming examples, I have taught many others to experience the joy of the world of C. Many would do well to invest in so small a reference library as this.
Rating: Summary: The best reference book in C programming Review: Simply the best book for both beginner and professinal programmer
Rating: Summary: Takes you to the next level Review: Unlike some other syntax-oriented books, this book goes into some great non-toy code, for things such as resource scheduling and binary and general trees. I have spent about 18 hours on the exercises per chapter, and I feel very confident about my knowledge of C. But as the book itself says, if you haven't programmed much, start with an easier book on C.
