Rating: Summary: This Book is Great! Review: I had been programming in QBASIC, and try as I might, I just couldn't understand most of C. Then I bought this book, read it, and now I completely understand C! This book deserves 6 stars!
Rating: Summary: GREAT Review: this book is great. I was able to learn everything I am no longer an absolute beginner. good job.
Rating: Summary: A terrific starting point for C Review: I must say, this is one terrific book. From knowing no C at all, I read it once, and with the knowledge I acquired (plus a small amount of internet sources) was able to write a C program which I used in a competition and won a medal!!!! I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Great book, but don't expect it to teach you all about C Review: I read this book with absolute no knowledge of C and have found it a useful tool. It is great for the absolute beginner like myself. If you buy this book and expect more than you should re-read the title because it is an intro book and not a book supposed to teach you advanced concepts such as link lists. Today I am going to purchase Perry's C by Example book. This book doesn't go far enough for me either, however, I cannot find a book, which explains things such as functions with such explicit (nice diagrams... no details left out) detail as Perry does nor does any other book do it with such non-technobabble. I looked at the K & R book last night as well as a few other books. While the K & R book is the "Textus Receptus" of C programming at my level, it does not offer the amount of explanation that Perry does. Perry as an author is great for explanation as well as keeping your attention. I rate this book a five star for what it is. If you rate it anything less than you should have bought a different book in the first place.
Rating: Summary: Great for Beginners!!! Review: If you want to introduce yourself to C or get ready for C++, buy this book. This was my first book on C, and it really set me for more. After this book, I read Teach Yourself C in 21 days, and that book really rocked. Absolute Beginners Guide to C doesn't present you with the inside information about what you are really doing, and how things work inside the computer to run your program, and about the compiler. Perry is afraid to give that kind of information because he thinks it will confuse you. This book also has some really upsetting errors in the code. If you really want to learn C, buy Teach Yourself C in 21 Days!
Rating: Summary: Beginners find source to learn foundations Review: I found this book to be a very good source of knowledge for the beginning of my programming career. Although Perry does not explain everything (thats why its for beginners) i think that if you do not even know what a computer command is you could still learn basic C from this book. I have read the book and i am writing C programs now. I have moved on to CGi programming and other areas but i started with this book!!! If it can work for me, it can sure work for you...
Rating: Summary: Good for review as well Review: I'm a C++/Java programmer who needed a quick brush up on C. This book did the job for me!
Rating: Summary: A Great book for beginners Review: This book is fantastic. The chapters are short and direct so interest is not lost. There is nothing boring about this book. I think Greg Perry did a fantastic job.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for beginners with no previous experience Review: Perry knows how to clearly explain the C language and keep the readers interest. The chapters are concise and not overloaded. The language is very clear. The only problem is that he could have given a few mpre examples. Still deserves 5 stars for clarity.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant in it's manner that it addresses the rest of us.. Review: Greg Perry is becoming one of the best text instructors out there today, he knows how to address the rest of us (non-developers) and makes the book seem like playing on the job.. Bravo Perry, I look forward to learning more from the rest of your books..
