Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: I had a little knowledge of Visual Bsic and didn't know anything about C programming. However, this book explained well enough to understand how to program in C. The examples are kept simple, and it's very easy to understand for everybody. If you don't know anything about programming or don't know where to start, this is the right book.
Rating: Summary: Great starter book Review: I really enjoy Greg Perry's teaching style. It kept the book entertaining and informative. He does a great job of explaining concepts such as arrays, pointers and what the heap is all about. He also keeps each chapter short and to the pointer (okay, that joke was corny like some were in the book :-) ) without losing you. If you're brand new to programming and are thinking about starting with C, I recommend considering this book.
Rating: Summary: ANY G.PERRY BOOK IS GOOD Review: IF YOU NEED BOOKS THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND OR EVEN OVER UNDERSTAND, BUT LIKE IT THAT WAY, THIS BOOK AND TWO OTHERS THAT I HAVE OF HIS FOUND THERE WAY INTO MY SHELVES WHERE I NOW LEND THEM OUT TO ALL FRIENDS WANTING TO START SOMEWHERE IN THE PROGRAMMING FIELD A GOOD BUY!
Rating: Summary: Great introduction to C, clearly written, easily digestible. Review: This book really clarified some points for me about arrays/pointers and the how/why of using the heap. I did find the writer's sense of ' nudge-nudge, say no more'-humour to be very, very American and silly. But who cares? This book is great for learning C, and that's what's claimed on the 'tin'.
Rating: Summary: Very easy basic book on C Review: Just finished the book and have to agree with the other reviewers. It is a great first book on C to read. It goes over all of the basics without overwhelming you. I am now ready to tackle a more indepth book with the basics I have learned.
Rating: Summary: EASY to understand Review: I wish I had found this book earlier. Junior highers would easily learn programming with this book and I may even give it to my dad! Someone with basic programming knowlege(loops, variables, etc) should use this book to learn the basic C syntax. This is what I used the book for and had a good basic grasp on its syntax in a few hours.
Rating: Summary: Easy to learn basic C Review: I think this is a great book for those who want to learn the "basics" of C. Once you read this book you can get a more advanced book if you're going into serious C programming.
Rating: Summary: This book shows how continuation-passing style Review: This book shows how continuation-passing style is used as an intermediate representation to perform optimizations and program transformations. Continuations can be used to compile most programming languages. The method is illustrated in a compiler for the programming language Standard ML.
Rating: Summary: Bloody Perfect!!! Review: THIS BOOK COULDN'T OF GOT ANY BETTER. IT'S TEACHES YOU THE ABSOLUTE BASICS OF C SO NOW I CAN GO ON FURTHER WITH MY TRASHY BOOKS THAT I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND BEFORE!!!I.E. DAVE MARK'S LEARN C ON THE MAC
Rating: Summary: I am a Beginner and I AGREE ITS THE BEST Review: I have been teaching myself C for about a year now . Mostly off and on , but this book by far surpasses my expectations. I am on Page 235 and have 135 pages to go ! But as far as i can see this book cant end bad. This book is by far the easiest to understand . Trust me I have bought 4 books on C and have read only one of them all the way through this will be number 2. Also after you get done reading this book get C for Dummies a great second book on C. The author should have made the rand() and srand() section a little bit clearer , but other then that BUY THESE BOOKS !!!!!
